I havent had the stomache flu in about a year, but does anyone know if when they vomit your heart speeds up right before and then calms down once your finished? Thats what mine does and I wondered if thats the way it is with everyone else.

yes, I have had that happen, It could be imho due to nerves about worrying about getting sick before its coming"sorry"
If it keeps up imho I would call your Dr and ask
Always to be safe
Hope you feel better

Yes, vomiting initiates a sympathetic nervous system response that increases sweating, heart rate, (worry :-), etc.

Oh yes...its the same for me. Actually I am terrified to vomit. When I was a little girl, my mom would stand behind me, put her arms around my tummy and squeeze. It made it a lot easier...lol...now hubby does it for me.

Thanks! I always wondered if I was the only one. It seemed like my heart was speeding up maybe to assist in making my stomache gunk go vertical? Thats the way I saw it. This topic is borderline TMI, but I still had to find out question?

Well, if you think about it balish, it requires quite a bit of adrenaline to upchuck something - so it does make sense that your heart speeds up and then relaxes afterwards. As long as you aren't getting irregular heart beats or racing or slowing dramatically, that lasts a long long time, your heart is fine I would say.

I get that really cold chill thing like just before passing out...& yes, the heart rate does soar. I hate to throw up...actually afraid to.....after this experience.

It was just about 2 years after my daughter was born & just before the long presidents day weekend in Feb. She had been throwing up, but we all thought it was teething...seemed that was what always happened when a new tooth was about to come through.

We planned a long weekend down in San Diego to visit the zoo & wild animal park. Since we thought it was just teething sick, we went ahead with the weekend. She was ok on the drive there (several hours), but just as we arrived in the motel, I got sick.....so sick. Later that night, I looked in the mirror & horror. The whites of my eyes were completely blood red. I looked at my fact & it had little pin points of red completely covering my face. The scarry part was that I was continuing to get sick, so the red just kept getting worse.

The powerful illness burst the blood vessels in my eyes & face. I was so sick that we couldn't drive home, & I couldn't get out of the hotel room. I couldn't even keep water down, let alone the 7-up/soda crackers that everyone says will help settle your stomach. That was 2 days of horror. Then it finally let up enough so we could drive home & on the way home, my husband got it & was sick all the way home.

What a way to spend a vacation weekend....in a motel, so you can't even leave the room. That was the most expensive stomach flu I have ever had.

Since that time, everytime I get sick, the blood vessels break just like that time....so having the stomach flu is much worse for me than just throwing up. Besides, it's embarasing to try & explain what happened to me & "how does the other guy look????"
