Didn't want to reply in DocJohn's server thread so that he doesn't have to go searching for the actual problems there Another Modernization.

But speaking of modernization, imagine yourself a mere 15 years ago... Our TVs were all low-def, some people still played music off of large black vinyl discs, communication was by telephone or postal carrier, people didn't converse with their friends in another city using their cell phone while waiting in line at the checkout counter...

Get that image in your head, and imagine this sentence being uttered by someone during normal conversation (posted by emily in the server problems thread)

" I couldn't get on until last night due to dns problems so I understand her frustration. Some bonehead must have a dns server in his mother's basement which he uses for a TV stand. Heather needs to hope for a brief power failure to hit his mom's house so it's forced to reboot, and maybe it'll pick up DocJohn's updates. :-)"

15 years ago simple things like caller ID were a big feature, now is nothing!
15 years ago bippers where in, not cell phones! And even bippers were not used by everyone like cells are now.
15 years ago the bigger the boom box, the better. Now even stereos have shrunk!
15 years ago woman's bathing suits didn't get stuck between the buns, that was a wedgy!

wow, we've come a long way...

"people didn't converse with their friends in another city using their cell phone while waiting in line at the checkout counter..."

THAT would be nice to have again!! Another Modernization I don't particularly like to be forced into eavesdropping into anyone's conversation! Another Modernization

Cell phones are so nice but people just WAY overdo it. Sometimes I see someone in a supermarket checking with their spouse about what brand of cereal they were supposed to buy. That's pretty cool, probably saves a lot of arguments when they get home Another Modernization But then there are like a billion people strolling up and down the aisles just talking to friends, and talking loudly, as if they were in their own living room.

It's like their bodies are in the supermarket doing family chores, but their brains are flopped on their beds doing this:

-Hi, Margie!
-Hi, Alice!
What's the story, morning glory?
-What's the word, humming bird?
-Have you heard about Hugo and Kim?
Did they really get pinned?
Did she kiss him and cry?
Did he pin the pin on?
Or was he too shy?
Goin' steady, goin' steady,
Goin' steady,
Steady for good!
Goin' steady, goin' steady,
Goin' steady,
Steady for good!

One time at Carnegie Hall... how stupid can you have to be? (I guess with a house so full of people, the odds are there) it was a Mahler concert, and someone's cell phone went off... playing the Mexican Hat Dance no less. He shut it off really quickly, but a few seconds later, an usher showed up, and he was BOOTED!
