I haven't been on-line much lately, and don't know if this has been discussed on-line as yet, but is anyone reading this book?
What do you think? Hoaky? Confusing? Too New-Agie? Will anyone be doing the classroom thing that Oprah has going? I'm always wary of stuff like this. I have almost completed the book, however, the more I read, the less it makes sense and the more ridiculous some of these concepts sound. Anyone have any comments, or if this has already been discussed in another thread or forum, can you let me know? ![]()

He and Oprah are teaching an online "class". I don't pay a whole lot of attention to Oprah's books, prefer older tried and true ones to the latest thing that some celebrity is pushing.

That sort of scares me, to be in on online class. No, I won't be joining. ![]() |

Online classes are okay, they're a little like being here at PC, you just comment when/if you want and people respond, etc. and lots of resources and everyone's like you, there to learn whatever it is.

I keep trying to read it and it pisses me off. I think it's a lot of hooey. And according to the book, that makes me unenlightened.
I know I'm smarter than Oprah and she thinks it's the bees knees. (Where did that come from?) So, I'm pretty sure she's faking it. Some people think if they don't understand something, it must be pretty great. I threw the book across the room. |

Thanks, AS, for mentioning this guy. I don't watch Oprah or pay attention to most new books coming out so missed him.
Doh, it doesn't take brains is why Oprah gets it. It's just a shift of perception. Brains can get in the way. It's paying attention in therapy; where you are aware of yourself, your T, and what you all are working on all at the same time? Where you're above it and can see everything? That above "person" who can see everything, isn't afraid, knows it will all work out, etc. is what he's talking about. It's just extremely difficult to explain is all. It's not new, just the "next" wave of people saying the same thing that has been said since the 1960's, probably before that even. A different way of looking at mindfulness sort of? Instead of seeing all the minute details (rather than yourself) you look at the bigger picture (rather than yourself). Look at forest instead of tree. Go read Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's Flow, if you haven't already; that's the "intelligent" version sort of. If you've read Flow, read his other book, The Evolving Self: http://www.amazon.com/Evolving-Self-.../dp/0060921927

Thanks Perna. I'll check that stuff out. I learned Transcendental Meditation in the 70s and I imagine that's a similar state of being. Back then it was "Be Here Now" by Ram Dass.
Hey Altered States, are you reading the book? What do you think? |
