You should be if your British .......

When sending in your CV employers in Britian have admited that the first thing they do is check out Friends Reunited and your Face Book !

Many people dont get as far as an interview because of information they have revealed about themselves on the web. Also there have been instances of jobs being offered and then withdrawn !

What do you think ? Do they have the right to do this ? Should they be stopped or should we change our information about ourselves ?

well my mom always told me dont put anything you dont want others to read in writting! She was refering to my diary though because she or my sisters would read it. Also, why would people want to put information on the web about themselves that isnt good???? I also think though that the jobs have a right to know the stuff about you since you will be working for them. It just gives people more of a reason to live by good morals and live a proper life.

It is kind of dumb to put stuff on the Web, a public place, that you don't want everyone to know; like walking around with a sandwich board sign on you with all that stuff and then being surprised someone doesn't like something.

It's about you and that's what people are hiring. I have a friend who was telling me about her husband's niece who put all kinds of information about her drug use, etc. up there where her parents and everyone could see. I just don't get that.

Tishie, anything that is on the web is fair game. NOTHING is 100% safe. These people that are putting things in their blogs that could hurt them should know better, whether in Britain or anywhere else in the world! Paranoid about your blog ?

Some people are complaining as the pictures they have of them are from student days drunk and scantly clad they say they was having fun and its not right that they are not being considered for a job because of it.

How long will it be before hospitals decide to use the same information to decide which people they are treating ? Based on their social life. For example what if you needed a bypass operation and hospital physician decided to look at your my face to decide whether or not to go ahead with the operation based on your social life, remembering that its not only your blogs they have access to but also any forum you may be a member of.

All choices we make definately influence our future. Doctors do make choices on who and how to treat according to one's lifestyle! It's very hard for an alcoholic to get a liver transplant.

Doctors can't do that. It's not allowed. They have to treat you no matter what.

I use all the anonymity I can get. I think if it's out there, people are smart to use it.

Unreal. How can they base hiring decisions on web postings. I thought everyone knew that much of what people post are lies. I always use to say AOL, be all you can be! I think they should be stopped. But how would you do that! How would you know they stopped! They could just stop admitting it! It is rather funny actually that they could take information from facebook etc seriously! Maybe or maybe not!

I totaly agree with everything you said ! It is out of order and people make things seem more exciting on my face rather than tone it down.

They have to decide if you're a good candidate for some treatments. All in not fair in love, war, and medical treatment.

They can base their decisions on your lifestyle but not on your character. An active alcoholic would not be a candidate for a liver transplant. The medical records would show if he/she is still drinking. They couldn't take what they read on the web as evidence.

My ninth grade teacher told our class one day something that has always stuck in my mind and I've heeded it:

"Fool's names and fool's faces appear in public places." She was talking about those that wrote their names on bathroom stalls and walls. Publicly blogging things like wild parties, drug use, sexual promescuity, etc. falls under the "fool" category, IMO.

Privacy is just an illusion in this day and age. Right or wrong it's something we have to accept. I know many Americans do not feel the same way I do about this; but I don't feel that I have anything to hide, so I could care less what "they" know about me and my behaviors.

If you were an employer, wouldn't you find out everything you could about perspective employees? If you're foolish enough to have proof of your mispent youth published on the web when you're attempting to find an adult job, it shows that you're not very responsible IMO.

Oh, and just cause you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you. Paranoid about your blog ?
