Maybe a bit off topic but I'm going to throw this out there anyhow. Perhaps someone can offer a suggestion.

Because of back problems and fibromyalgia I sleep with this huge U shaped body pillow at night. I wash the pillow cases frequently but the problem is the pillow itself develops yellow stains (sweat maybe?). It barely fits in the wash machine and when I do that I risk damaging it. I'm actually on my second pillow because the first one tore in the wash machine. And it's not a cheap item! I wish I could get a plastic protector like you can get for regular bed pillows but there is no such thing I am aware of.

Any thoughts maybe on spot cleaning it? laundry question

Here's the pillow.

My pillow is like that too, the one I sleep on, just a normal head pillow, and it gets stained (from crying I think?). Maybe there is nothing you can do to stop it?

Yep I'm with Katheryn, Laundry matts have those really big washers. I was several pills (don't over pack it) and wash in Hot water delicate cycle. Drying they recommend you put some tennis balls (new) to refluff, I do not do this. I hang mine on the line! When you wash it, put a fair amount of white vinegar in there along with the bleach (I prefer the dry colored bleach because of the sent).

Also, invest in a good pillow protector, that will really help preserve the pillows. Doesn't have to be plastic, but there are some really nice heavy ones out there that are almost waterproof and they do not interfer with your comfort. J.C. Penny's offers pillow protectors for the body pillows and king size pillows, as does Linen's and things, and Bed Bath and beyond. They're not cheap, but they're worth it.

That is really an awsome looking pillow....it looks really comfortable to sleep with & bet it really helps ease the pain. There is nothing like a good pillow for a good nights sleep.

Pillows usually have a label on them telling how to clean them.....washing machine, dry clean, or spot clean. If you can machine wash it, all you need to do is find a place with professional washing machines....or sometimes dry cleaners also do machine washing.

If it's dry cleanable....then just finding a good dry cleaner to do the job.

Spot cleaning is more difficult. Finding a good cleaner that doesn't smell horrible...especially ho w pillow. Finding something that works. I have many different cleaners for all the differebt jobs.....read the labels. I always like to find the biodegradable cleaners.

Good luck with the pillow cleaning,
Debbie

If you want a plastic cover for it and do not mind the plastic noise when you sleep.... Buy some of the plastic that they make table cloths out of. Fabric stores carry it and it is heavy duty. Make a case for your pillow out of that1 Obviously the case you put over it will still get stained. but you wont have to keep washing your pillow!

how good are you at sewing? Maybe you could make a plastic cover?

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions!

Curley...I like the tablecloth idea. I would have never thought of that one.

Balish...I can thread a needle and that's about it. Sometimes even that is a challenge! laundry question

The pillow specifically says 'do NOT dry clean.' Yesterday I pulled out the trusty yellow pages and found a laundromat that's probably no more than 2 miles from where I'm at, so when I have some time I think I will go that route. Maybe they will have Wi-Fi and I can sit and read the forums while my pillow gets clean. laundry question

thats a good idea, if they do service wash you could leave it in there capable hands and go and do other things,
also why not contact the company you bought it from and find out if they sell pillow protectors to fit your pillow

I've never gone looking for chicks in my entire life! Wouldn't know where to begin. laundry question

I've inquired about a pillow protector, and the company doesn't make one. I suggested it though!

I did not look at the picture before I posted last time. If you're uncomfortable sewing make a cover with velcro, there is that fabric glue that will eliminate the sewing portion. I really wouldn't use plastic though, that will really make you sweat, there is thicker fabric, like the stuff you change baby's on, almost water proof.

I remember something I've seen on Martha Steward that I do with my feather beds in the summer. Put like 1 part vinegar 3 parts water, spray the thing and put it in the sun to dry, something with the sun, vinegar and feathers.

For spot cleaning I would use the Resolve fabric cleaner.
