Yes I heard about the quake early this morning another Quake! I used to live in MO, on the faultline and always wondered "when."

I hope all our members here at PC (and their families) are ok. Would be good for you to check in with us here, so we don't worry if you are okay. another Quake!

I've been through the quakes in central Illinois over the past 55 years but I don't remember any after shocks that were as strong as the actual earthquake. This was just as stong as the one early this morning. Sure made me shake. Wait I think I'm still shaking another Quake! No the radio said the aftershock was 4.5.

What's really interesting is that they had an earthquake DRILL scheduled for the 18th!!! (For the New Madrid faultline.) IF you all hadn't been sharing the actual sensations, I would for sure think it was a (poor) Joke by the media!

http://www.showme.net/~fkeller/quake/ For info on the faults that make up the New Madrid faultline.

You know - if those keep happening out there in the central area, it might be time to take a month vacation? I've read a book on the history of that area (can't recall the name) and that's how their "really big one" started ... turn of the century. first a quake, then "aftershocks" just as big or bigger... then really bad news. I'm sorry, i don't mean to be an alarmist, but that is what i'd do (having read what I did) if it were me.
Hope you all staf safe out there!
We've been getting a bnch of the pacific coast, too... in our case the 5-pointers are "good" because (so they tell us) it is like chiropractic, keeping the 9 pointer away that would level us. I really hope their right. We've had over 500 "little" quakes on the Juan de Feuka plate (spelling) over the past week.

I hope all stay safe. I have been watching with interest the stuff on Discovery and History channel about the quake that made the Mississippi run backwards. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Does anyone in the Mid West get the commercials with the California Happy Cows? I love the one where the cows are out to pasture and a quake strikes, the ground splits then the camera goes to one cow. When the quake stops, she says "AAWWW" with regret. LOL That's about how it is out here in CA. My middle son used to love to get on his bunk, the top, and ride them out. He'd basically say the same thing when it was over, "AAWWW". another Quake!

I used to freak out like crazy with the slightest movement of the ground but now I just sit and watch things sway, like my hanging plants. No big. another Quake!

The Northridge Earthquake was a really good one though. Somewhere in the upper 7s I think. It was very early in the morning. I was sleeping in an old fashioned water bed and that thing really rocked and rolled! another Quake! You could hear transformers exploding all over the place. S. CAL did suffer quite a bit of damage from that one. No electricity, so no gas pumps worked. Doors to stores were locked shut, cash registeres didn't work and so on. You can imagine.

Gasoline was a biggie for us because we had a generator that ran on gas. We made it just fine, though, probably because we lived out in the country and we were used to roughing it. another Quake!

Ya'll stay safe. I'm sure California will be joining you sometime soon. Those little earthquakes are welcome any time, though. Keeps us from having "the big one."

My first quake when I lived in California was kind of funny. I was standing on a chair to change a lightbulb in my room, and it felt like a train or big truck went by. I fell off the chair but fell on the couch so no big deal. I just thought I lost my balance. But then I went outside a few minutes later and the railing was jiggling and some neighbors were talking. I guess it was about a 4.5 or 5.0 quake. Just kinda felt like riding a wave. I thought it was kinda cool! But it could be scary if there was more damage, or you didn't know what was going on.

southern Wisconsin may have gotten it -- I haven't heard of anybody my way (far north) affected.

That said, I lived in St Louis for 10 years and remember sitting on my boss's chair at work (he wasn't in it at the time, LOL) and feeling one!! I'm with Tomi and the Happy Cow on this one. another Quake!
