I had a long discussion with my pdoc about this…“do I matter?” When I get depressed I look at that question through a filter of despair and I generally feel like I don’t matter—like I could disappear and it just would not matter. I could die and I would not even have left a footprint on society.

So, I have been coming out of my depression and as I look at the question now, I realize I do matter. Of course to my family, but to many others as well. PscyCentral came to the front of my mind as a place where “I matter.” Not only do I matter as a person, everything I do here matters and generally helps either myself or others. I can’t think of another place or organization where I feel this connected and involved with other people. It feels good to matter and I hope everybody else here knows how much you matter to me.

We must be on similar wavelengths! I tend to go towards that kind of thinking myself...I try not to think about it when I'm not depressed because I'm afraid I'd come up with the same answers as when I'm depressed...so you are not alone in your depressive thinking!

Yes you do!

Remember your end point on that discussion, when you are in a good place you can see that you DO matter. Then, when you hit depression again (and as it begins to ease forever I hope) you will be able to use the "decision" against the depressive lies. You can say, "No, I know I DO matter, I won't listen to depression."

You have reached a good place in your life.

(Remember the story, It's a Wonderful Life. Just because it's centered around Christmas time doesn't meant the moral doesn't apply year round!)

(((Depressme)))

You definitely matter to me. Don't let depression tell you otherwise.
