I do not know if you any of caught the post about me trying to write a romance story, but I am finding out it is much more difficult than I thought, My friend knew me well enough to know:

1) I have never read a romance novel, so I have no point of reference, I always thought they were schlock artists.

2) I have never experianced a conventional romance myself, again another point of reference. My wife is with me because I am a "good" "safe" man not because I am attractive or engaging

3) Her conclusion was that I had about as much chance of success as Micheal Bay directing a romantic comedy, or Marylin Manson writing a love ballad.

Here were her parameters:

1) it had to be a classic story, about NORMAL humans, as opposed to demons, vampires, aliens, mutants etc..( she has read alot of my writing)

2) I could pick the setting between the 1600's and now,

3) My guy character had to "get the girl" in the end.

So out of stupid pride I had accepted this. I am 5 pages in and struggling, nevertheless I can meet her end of the week deadline. I will post the results for your judgement and a good laugh( especially for the ladies of PC) I am planning on two versions a "clean" one that I will post in creative and a "higher octane" one that I will send those who ask upon request via PM.

Well back to it. Harder than I thought...

hmm..try reading some classic romantic poetry like Robert Browning or his wife Elizabeth Baret Browning. Yes some of it is super gushy romance but some of it is really beautiful and touching and not at all nausating. Also check out Pride and Prejudice the movie that has Kira Knightly..not overly romantic..but sweet and simple.

I wish you much luck and look forward to reading your story!! If you need any help feel free to ask me!

Thanks for offer but that would be "cheating" You did give me an idea for something though. Look for it in my story.

Thanks and take care.

Tim, I have no doubt that you could come up with a viable romantic story. I think everyone has it in them to touch their "inner" thoughts, fantasies, feelings and put them on paper. Some have it easier than others...but I believe you are up to the challenge. I can't wait to see the results!

We all see romance in different ways...sure it's romantic if a guy brings flowers and confesses his love, but it's also romantic for a guy to do little things as long as he's thinking of the one he loves. I guess what I'm saying there are degrees of romance.

I guess what's important here is what is romantic to YOU? I mean someone can look at one person's idea of romance as not being romantic at all or vice versa.

Hang in there.

What fun!! I have a series of stories that I have written... I enjoy writing.. Started writing stories yrs ago for my friend... We were going on a girls getaway and she asked me to write a "hot" story to read her while we traveed... Then that spun off several more stories using the same characters... Love, tradgey, triumph...

Have fun with it and allow yourself to explore your fantasies and more during this great writing adventure... Cant wait to read it!

Here's a hint: Boy meets girl; boy loses girl; boy gets girl. Have fun.

Thanks for the tip LOL, since I am composing a short story rather than a full length novel I am changing your formula a bit.

Boy meets girl, boy dates girl, well I will not give the last part away accept to say it involves a lovely house by a picturesque mountain lake etc...
