I've written that I have been a fingernail biter for almost all my life. That said, which forum should I choose to seek support, advice, etc.? Self injury? I don't want to offend those whose pain might be a bit deeper than mine. Thanks.

Hi, Jim, welcome; I'm a nail biter too. I wouldn't worry about offending others with your concerns. I don't know about you, but I got a lot of abuse for my nail biting. I was in therapy for my anxiety.

I suppose nail biting would be part of the self injury catagory so i would start there, but I think you have to ask yourself first weather you bite them as an act of self injury??

I would simply start with wherever YOU feel the most comfortable. If its not the right spot, someone will notice, and will move the post and let you know via the PM system. You can also let a moderator or admin know and they can tell you what would be best.
I would personally say the anxiety forum, as I think its related best to that, but that depends on your base reasons for biting your nails. Im a tounge chewer myself! |

I used to bite all my nails horribly! Now I just bite the nails on my pinkies...
Most of the time it's anxiety-related...but can also be a form of self harm...

I vote for OCD forum. If you make that thread there, I will frequent it. I am and always have been a nail biter. It has only gotten worse with time. Right now, I literally have fingers that have no nail at all since I bit it right down to the cuticle.

I bite my nails until my hands bleed. I showed my pdoc the other day and he did not react at all. I never thought about it being self injury or OC.
