Dad and I had the money talk today. I found out how much I get per month for gas, groceries etc. When I run out of money for said stuff tough luck. I guess this is the way to learn to budget. My cigarette money has to come out of my grocery money so I guess Marlboro's are out of the question LOL. I have my ways of getting around that though so I think the first couple of months will be tough but I'll manage it.

You're still smoking Marlboro's? How can you afford it??? I used to be a die-hard Marlboro smoker--wouldn't smoke anything else no matter what--but I found a brand called Sonoma and I love them...they're stronger than Marlboro's but very worth it! And they're a lot cheaper!

this might be a good time to quit smoking. Its very difficult but not impossible. Not only will you gain lots of health benifits but you will have a lot more money.

Think about all the money you have spent on cigs, now think about this:

$$$ spent= Lung Cancer, throat cancer, emphysema, heart problems etc..

On a cost benefit anlyasis smoking does not make since does it?

In fact a friend of mine who had been a life time smoker finally quit at 65 told me that what he had spent on cigarettes since he was 18 would have bought him another house similar to the one he lived in cash money. If he had saved and invested those funds he could have retired 10 years earlier.

Not lecturing here, but I urge smokers to think about what they are really getting out of this habbit, is it worth the money to wreck your health and the health of those close to you?

Better late than never! The money talk Plus you need to budget that gas will increase in price!

Wasn't yesterday International Smoke Out Day??? You could join the movement today, no one will notice...and do it along with millions of others! The money talk

I just read an article from the local hospital paper, about how many middle age women especially are being dx'd with COPD! It's from smoking when younger. The money talk

It's an addiction that I hope you are able to quit. FL had a program recently where you could get free patches and support to stop... wondering if AR has anything like that? And today, Walt Disney World just went totally smoke free environment. That sure helps people like me who need every clean breath she can get. The money talk

Do your best! I'm glad your dad is hanging in there with you. The money talk

It sounds like a relief to have the budget done and the money talk out of the way.

Food is an essential budget item. It is your physical nourishment and you don't want to cut back there. Smoking harms your heatlh. Food replenishes your body's nutrients and can prevent illnesses. I feel like good food is like good medicine.

If you smoke, you smoke, and that should be budgeted separately instead of denying that it is one of your expenses (your Dad, not you).

Do you have entertainment in your budget? Perhaps cigs could come from there instead.

jbug, I smoked for over 30 years and quit 3 years ago this past March 1st. It's one of the best things I did for myself. I feel much less anxious now, much to my surprise. It feels so good to not be a slave to the habit!

I tried that in getting dad off my account and doing my money myself and he said ok fork over $2,000 for my car in cash. That man will do anything to keep a stronghold on me. We are trying I guess and I guess that's all I can ask for.
