How do you keep cool in the heat when you are indoors?
I have myself and a one year old and a four month old and its 31 degrees out right now(canadian not sure what that makes it in the other type of degree) I have all the windows open and the fan going but its still majorly warm. Im concerned about the baby mostly, since overheating can be very bad. I can put Mya(the one year old) in the tub from time to time but I can't do them all at once and certainly I wouldnt FIT in the tub with both of them( I barely fit myself, haha) So what else can I do to keep cool? |

eat ice or frozen juice, light weight cotton clothes is better than no clothes, will hold perspiration a little longer to evaporate and cool. sponge bath, cool compress to the back of the neck. just a few suggestions.

i live in south florida. even with a/c everywhere there are still times that the electricity is off or the a/c breaks down. it can be miserable. oh, and 31c is about 87f. 34 would probably mid to upper 90s, that is what our temp will be consistently till late october
![]() also, keep hair up off of your neck, wet your hair, and cool water run on your feet and or forearms helps too. lost

I find putting a cold pop can at the back of my neck really helps.
Plus I have one of those folding paper fans that I use all the time. |

This is an important subject, because heat is an issue for children, the elderly, and those on certain drugs, including certain psychotropic drugs. There are times that our city opens up cooling shelters when the heat index gets too high. This is useful, but often those who need them most do not have a way to get there. I can remember calling some of my clients who were taking anti-convulsants and/or anti-psychotics on days when the heat index reached a certain level to remind them to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the heat, and try to get to a cooling shelter if possible.
Great topic! I'm a big fan of the cool shower or bath, but when I visit FL, I can't get the water cool enough, unfortunately. gg

31C? Oh wow. It's around 20C-25C here and I'm burning.
![]() Not a lot of advice... just wear light clothes, and drink water with lots of ice cubes in it. |

Yes drink lots and lots of water!!
Keeping a wet cool towel around your neck helps too, We use that trick at work because it gets so warm from the kitchen. |

It has been so hot ahd humid here in WV. I have central AC and I just had a new "high efficiency" model installed, but I find it runs all the time if I set the temp too low, and that's not good. It has been in the 90's here and very humid. I take an SSRI, and have done so for many years, that makes me heat intolerant. Recently, I bought some cheap fans and keep them going near where I sit, and they do help immensely! Get some fans, Rain!

Having a spray misting bottle full of water in addition to a fan might work for you and baby.
