I didn't really know where to post this topic,
but this violent tragedy has shocked me,
and maybe some other people's views will
-- I don't know what; it isn't possible to feel
peace about this; it simply isn't possible.
Why did this happen? What could have
prevented this? If anything? What will happen to
the perpetrator?
It is because this happened fairly near to where
I live: http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2...316716-cp.html

It's best not to read and watch news as it could trigger you? That is gruesome to say the least. Try not to dwell on it, it is not a common occurrence. just wanting perspectives about this

I was on a bus going through the rockies at night last year..and the bus driver had a horrible movie playing (The Fog I think)... it could have set any unbalanced person off on the moonless night... one reason I didn't go back out this year, as I needed to do it differently and couldn't coordinate it yet.

(((((((((Rose)))))))))))) I heard about this earlier. Very shocking.

I think the person probably has a severe mental illness (maybe we'll find out as the public, but psych exam happens soon for this man) that wasn't being treated. Some people slip through the cracks and can have severe issues that are never treated. Maybe he was set off. Maybe drugs or alcohol was a factor. We just don't know at this point.

I don't think anyone could have prevented this... not like this sort of thing happens regularly. I honestly think that it was unprovoked, and that even with a police officer or some sort of other person on the bus at the time... the violence still would have happened, but *MAYBE* the victim wouldn't have died. We'll never really know.

The perpetrator if found guilty (I'm going to assume he will be, with eyewitness stuff and who knows what else) ... either jail time or if found mentally incapable of standing trial... psych hospital/prison for as long as needed to understand the crime committed and stand trial... if that ever happens.

I've taken forensic psychology and abnormal psychology and criminal behaviour ... and I think this person seriously has some issues, but doubtful that anything could be done to stop him, and doubtful if something like this would happen again if released.

Just my opinions anyways.

thank you Sky and Christina
I agree - it is better not to dwell on it.
And it is not a usual occurrence.
I believe that it was unprovoked (according to the news reports of what the witnesses have said).
The other people on the bus were also probably feeling shocked, afraid, alarmed, etc - without the immediate answers - how could any of them have had the time to develop an effective plan to stop this man. And considering his size (6 feet tall) - that would be expecting a lot for any man to try to stop him alone.
I keep thinking of the young man, the other passengers, the bus driver - and how they actually did handle things.
I figure that the perpetrator must have some psychiatric problems - he could have been hallucinating, delusional, paranoid, on meds, - if he was simply angry & impulsive (that's a diffferent matter - except that anyone who would do that HAS to be insane) - but he came onto that bus with a weapon.
Well - he is in the hands of the police at this time.
And the young man is dead.
I won't bring it up again.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and to respond.
