Last night, I had an episode of extreme anxiety. My OCD got real bad. I kept blinking my eyes compulsively. And I was hyperventilating and extremely nervous. I called my doctor and they put me through to an "ON CALL" doctor, who then asked why I was calling at 10 pm on a Sunday night instead of waiting until morning after I told her my meds, my symptoms, etc. So I screamed at her "I just told you, you idiot!" I can think of better things to say now. I could have said "I'm sorry, I thought I was talking to an ON CALL doctor. I didn't know you were a 9-5 doctor. Please put an ON CALL Doctor on the line. Thank you." GEEZ

Awww I'm sorry to read that. Maybe you should have reacted differently, but the doctor you called should also have been more understanding.

I agree with silver_queen...the doctors do have a tendency to be 9-5 docs where some dont realize that our bodies run 24-7......but a better, calmer response would probably had produced better results in that situation

Of course, of course I did not behave well. I was upset, though and sick. People must have said some things to her before when they were in bad pain or something. She seemed like she was too delicate or formal or something. Anyway, I had a talk with my doc. (She heard about it). And she gave me this lecture about how NO doctor is a 9-5 doctor, which is true. They work 150 hour weeks, etc, etc.
We had a misunderstanding. I thought she was refusing to treat me, see? But I was seen now and had more blood drawn to find out what's going on - if it's thyroid trouble. Thanks for listening. |

I know the good and the bad about doctors. I was married to one who actually listed our home number in the phonebook....he was always available (good and bad for family life)...then when I worked in ER, I heard a doctor, that I had theretofore respected, ream an overworked ER doc out for calling him in at 10:00 pm. to see his very own very sick patient!!! With the money make.......when they are on call, they should act like it!

CMS~ So sorry that this doctor didnt have the etiquette to deal with the situation correctly. It seemed out of line to me that her first reaction to your calling was that way. YOUR reaction to hers seemed fairly normal to me. I would have been upset also , not that it makes it ok for either party here to have acted out like this. Just dont worry about it anymore . Whats in the past here is done and hopefully forgiven and forgotten soon enough. You were going thru a hard time there and needed some compassion and help. I see nothing wrong in your calling her . Just hang in there ok? Hope your tests turn out ok.Be thinking of you too. Take care~

That must have been rough, Faye .... both my doctors are listed under their wife's names to try to throw people off track! (hey, I'm a reporter, I did a little digging.....:-)
