After less than two months, I am out of work again. Late in August I started working for a large financial/insurance firm as a field agent. Eight weeks later, they announced that, effective yesterday, the field agent program was being eliminated. No warning. Between management, agents and support people, 429 people in eight states are out of work. Fortunately, they gave us a severance package.

I know I will be okay, but at 57, I wanted this to be my last stop before retirement. Now everything is up in the air again.

I hope when you find another job, that you can force them into a time line "notice" requirement...and then, because you have it, never need it!

Oh Gary,

I am so sorry this is happening. I know that feeling of thinking this will be the last change & not have to worry about figuring out what to do again. I think that is one of the most stressful feelings. It was the feeling we had when we were young....."what am I going to be when I grow up????"

We are all growed up now.......we shouldn't still have to be thinking about what we are going to do when we grow up anymore!!!!

I am working on something right now from home......trying to figure out how it works & if it will work......if it does, I will let you know. It's a shot in the dark for me, but I am desperate for money right now & even though I am on disability, it just isn't cutting the bills.

I hope something shows itself to you as a solution to this.

You are in my prayers,
Debbie

Oh, this sounds very frustrating--I am sorry you are going through it. I hope the severance package is enough to keep you afloat until you are able to find another suitable job. Wow, hang in there...

I'm really sorry, that really sucks. I wish you success in finding something new.

Sky, Eskie, DePressMe and Splitimage,

Thank you for your kind words. The seveance package actually means my salary will continue for one more month, and they have a career management organization to help us with the transition. They are providing interview skills, job placement assistance, resume development, etc.

I have already sent out two resumes, one for a job very similar to the one I just lost.

I also have a small home-based business that I can resurrect if necessary.

I also realize that so many people are in a lot more trouble than I am. I still have my house and my family. My wife and my daughter are being very supportive, as they have been all along.

Again, thank you for your expressed concerns.

Wanted to "say" !

I've been through that THREE CONSECUTIVE TIMES! I've gotten so cynical about employers now...even before all this happened with the global economic crisis. I will not get "settled" into a place again, like bring my own coffee mug, radio, etc. Too much stuff to pack up when they tell you to get out. I don't know if I'll be able to "exhale" on any job again! It's not one day at a time, it's one HOUR at a time! I didn't make it through the day at any of my last jobs!

Owl,

For me this was the second layoff this year. I was in my own businesses for almost 25 years. I had to create my own work and opportunities. Going back into the corporate environment was never something I wanted to do. Now that I have to do that, it's not working out either.

One way or another I will be okay. Not trying is not an option for me.

I hope your situation works out okay for you. Life can be tough.
Thanks for this!
