do you ever get a time when your brain kind of lurches then goes blank and then you hear a voice for a few seconds, your brain slows down as well, the voice kind of echoes, and then your brain lurches again and then you're ok? it only lasts 10 seconds or so. the brain lurch is like a quick dizziness where things kind of shift. the voice is in my mind, i dont hear it externally. i also think it is my voice as well, just on a higher note. i dont think they are words either, and if i was asked to say outloud what i hear, i wouldnt be able to, because they arent words so i cant express them. it;s a bit like a broken record i guess, that kind of jarring repeat for a few seconds. both yesterday when i had it and today, it had a kind of familiar feeling to it, but i cant remember even having it before, or hearing anything like the noise in my head. it didnt scare me either. also, i am not sure time slowed down, but i guess my brain kind of slowed down. it's hard to describe. i know it's really confusing lol.

i wrote to January here (I'm quoting her here with her permission) and she said that she also had it. She said :

Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean. I call it "shifting" out of not knowing what else to name it. It's like your whole body and mind just shifted to the left for a moment. I have a roaring in my ears and people sound very strange.

It only lasts a second or two. I actually had it happen while I was walking and it was really disconcerting then.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

However, neither of us have any idea what it is or what it's caused by. Has anybody any idea?

I wish I had some light to shed, but other than being able to say, "me too," don't have any. I also notice that the "sharpness" of the event is more or less pronounced depending upon my overall stress load at the time. It can happen with or without anything else going on, and doesn't by itself trigger anything else neccessarily.

I have experienced what I call "vision shifts". But it's not quiet like what you describe. I notice it mostly at work, where the world kinds "shifts" like bumbum, and I get a little dizzy and my eyes take a minute to focus. I don't hear a voice or anything, but sometimes I forget where I was just then, it probably all only happens in about 10 seconds. It's usually when I'm hungry or extremely tired. It's very wierd. Almost like I'm suddenly going to pass out but then am suddenly ok. Don't know if it's much like what you're experiencing though.

Hope it clears up!

Rayna,

Your symptoms sound like hypoglycemia. When it happens, eat some graham crackers and drink some milk and see what happens. It always works.

You might want to mention it to your medical Dr.

silver,

do you have any blood pressure issues? I know with some of my medications that I can get dizzy and pass out if I stand too quickly after taking certain meds. When that happens if I don't pass out I DO hear a loud whooshing noise in my ears and feel as if my brain has been shaken.

I don't think this is what you are describing but it never hurts to brainstorm this and pare down the list of "what-could-it-be?" so you can ask pertinent questions next time you're at the health centre.

Thanks for the reply zh. As far as I know, I have no blood pressure problems and I am also taking no meds. I was also sitting down both times it happened, and though I can't remember what I was doing at the time on Saturday, when it happened today I was relaxed and minding my own business lol when it happened. Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you January! I've been trying to convice docs for 6 months that I have hypoglycemia, but they swore it was my heart. When it happens, I do go eat something, and feel fine, and I when I stick to a good hypoglycemic diet, I feel so much better. Glad someone else gave me the same diagnosis. Pretty sad when lay people know more then the docs!

I have moments when i can be just sitting down (as in not getting up so its not the blood pressure thing) and suddenly i get a weird dizzy kind of feeling, it feels like sitting on a boat when someone jumps in, vision shifts left and right, like "the boat" was swinging. My ears also hum. I feel sick for a while and then everythings back to normal.
Then theres moments i see everything kinda differently, i can't explain it, some sort of difference in colours and distances and voices sound like they were in a different room... I had those a lot when i was a kid, kinda scary.
And then there's one thing i call "zoning" out, when i lose a couple seconds, i only notice it if i'm running or something. I got kicked once because of it Anybody recognize these symptoms? was running behind my horse way back and then -zap- i was right behind him, ouch Anybody recognize these symptoms? that has happened few times while i was driving too, luckily no accidents have happened because of it.
I don't know what any of those are (or are they anything close to what u described) I just take them as part of being weird Anybody recognize these symptoms?

Neriz, the zoning out that you describe sounds like a little bit of dissociation. I do that too. It can be any time. People ask me what I'm staring at, or why I am staring at them, but I wasn't looking at anything, or even aware of anything. Focused really intently inward or something. It also happens when I am driving, and I forget to turn, and wind up going someplace that wasn't where I meant to go.

The hearing and vision changes could be dissociation too. I don't really know. On hypoglycemia, I don't think that docs like to diagnose that these days. My mother had it, and also got migraine headaches (not sure if t here is any connection there). The migraines headaches sometimes are preceded by vision and hearing glitches. Anyway, the advice they gave her for hypoglycemia was way off - they told her to consume massive quantities of carbohydrates, particularly alcohol - but that was 30 years ago and they know better now. Basically, there really isn't anything to do about it medically anyway except to maybe be aware of it and a possible risk of developing diabetes, and also to watch your diet - eat frequent small meals, and don't get too hungry.
