Could we use a Self-Esteem Forum?
You may see the results after you vote. Thanks! ![]()

WOW!!! I know we are all entitled to our own opinions and have the right to voice them but I am shocked at the results so far as I placed my vote.

At first I thought of Kudos, but that forum really is for a pat on the back, or hugs, etc. Hmmmm....?

I personally didn't think that anybody would vote 'no'. I was very surprised. Even if someone doesn't need it themselves, there is always someone else who does. Or maybe they think there are too many forums now? I have no idea why votes would be cast in that direction because no reasons were posted but as I said, we are all entitled to our own opinions and nobody's opinion is worth more/less than the next person's. Let the votes fall where they may.

I thought that too, Inkblot. What would take place in a Self esteem forum? Doesn't Kudos and affirmations raise people's esteem somewhat?
Btw... I havent voted... I'm just wondering what things could be said in a self esteem forum, that aren't already said in people's supportive posts...

Oh - I thought Sept meant a place where people could talk about what they are doing to try to improve their self-esteem.

Yes, Kudos is a place for hugs, pats on the back and such, but I was thinking of a place where we could work on our own self-esteem issues and maybe get something to work with to help us.
Please feel free to say how you feel about the way you voted, if you want to.

That's if your name appears in Kudos and Affirmations. Maybe in a self-esteem forum ideas could be shared on how to improve it?

It could be a place to share inspirations for raising our self-esteem. Or a place to post if we are feeling down, but not depressed.

LMo, that's great. I'm glad that you have been able to accomplish that. Maybe you wouldn't mind sharing with others what you did to acquire it.

Ha! I'll have to think about that Angelgirl. A lot of it just came with getting older. If I can come up with anything remotely interesting to say, I'll post it here! ;-)

I'd say having determination to succeed. I had terrible self-esteem in junior high and high school and it manifested itself in 'rebellious' ways. However, I was very smart and it kind of got on my nerves that people (my dad, other kids, teachers) seemed to expect me to fail. In college, I made a fresh start and worked my *** off to get good grades, build a resume of marketable skills, develop better social skills, take better care of myself, and to not project anything that would mark me as someone with esteem problems. Meaning, I toned down the goth clothes (although it wasn't called goth back then), worried less about whether I was conforming, not conforming, blending, standing out... I just started BEING. After college, I saw what I could achieve and the rewards that could be had if I conducted myself well and always did a good job. The self-esteem naturally followed. However, as I said earlier, a lot of it just came with growing up and losing my immaturity.

This is exactly what I'd like to see happen! Another example is a small workbook I got when I was in the hospital. I'd love to post the exercises but I know that if it was posted in General, it would get lost. When I went through the Mental Health forums, it would have fit in any of them. Seems that most of us have issues with self-esteem since it's a common by-product of most mental health issues. I thought it would be great to have some place to deal with the problem separately. You're opinions are welcome, so go for it! ![]()
