I have a tiny "powder room" half bath that is just 30 inches across. I am doing a faux finish in there -- first time I've done this. I decided to do the door, too, and took the doorknob off to paint. And slammed the door behind me!

I get panicky in small spaces. There was a time when I it was hard to even ride in elevators and I still can get panicky if it is slow or airless.

Oh, man, I was so worried I'd die in there before anyone found me. I banged on the door and screamed help me. When I calmed down enough, I realized that the door workings were exposed, so there had to be some way to work the mechanism to spring it to let me out. Eventually, I figured it out and got out -- and taped the place where that door lock thing springs out as well as the place in the wall where it springs into.

I was covered with sweat and felt very shaky.

My mom told me she locked herself in the apartment storage room once -- but she remember that she had her tool box in her locker and took the door knob apart. The women in my family are pretty handy.

Since you had posted, I knew you were okay. The first thing that came to mind was when my youngest, at the age of two, locked himself in the bathroom. We could hear him messing with the door knob but the door wouldn't open. It wasn't long before we heart "Open the dammit doh!" LOLOL

Glad you're out and safe, Hun! Locked myself in bathroom. Scary

W2F (got it right this time!) Glad you got out okay. It does sound scary. And your bathroom probably looks lovely.

And September Morn, "open the dammit door!" ROFL, that's too funny.

I am happy to hear it all worked out, I had a couple of similar things like that happen over the years to me, recently, it was wee hours in the morning/late nite, below zero, didn't know my husband had locked the back door when we were away earlier that day, everyone's asleep, I'm out with the dogs, having my smoke, go to come in and, door locked, no backdoor doorbell (will get one soon) both gates are frozen shut, so I couldn't open them and go to the garage and come in house or go to front and ring doorbell, now even worse, I'm in my niteshirt with my coat over it.
Strange thing, I do not remember, but I did find a spot in the snow to climb over the fence, naturally bruised and cut myself doing so. Besides panicking I may die right in my own yard, I was afraid for my dogs, they were freezing, scratching the glass door. Well needless to say I am always checking that the button isn't turned in the lock position.
Oh quite of few locked in and out of places.
I know how scared you must of been, I broke down in tears in some other incidents.
Gotta run,
Happy you are safe Locked myself in bathroom. Scary

Wants2fly, I'm glad things worked out and you got out of there alright. I have similar feelings when I'm in extremely enclosed spaces so I can imagine how it must have felt. You sure did a good job in staying as calm as possible and taking steps to prevent the situation from coming up again. Take care.

Yieks! I have the same thing, sort of. I can't take my face being covered. It doesn't matter if it's just a cloth. And I have to have my hands free. If a piece of the quilt is coming over my face when I sleep, I wake up all sweaty and hysterical.... terrible. I used to dig out caves in the snow when I was a child, but while my friends was sitting in there with a candle light and drinking hot chocolate and eating cookies, I was sitting on the outside and didn't dare going in. Small rooms are bad too, but if it is a window there, I manage. I can take elevators, but unless there something special, I alway use the stairs.

Good you got yourself out Locked myself in bathroom. Scary

My mom told me I locked myself in a bathroom when I was around 5. Experimenting with what happens when you turn the key! The slipped a piece of paper under the door and eventually coaxed me into putty the key on the paper so they could pull it to the other side of the door and get me out.

Darkeyes -- I locked myself out of my apartment in the cold with my dog once, too. I had to take a taxi -- with no money -- to a friend's house, get them to pay the taxi driver and let me stay the night -- then I called my landlord to let me in in the morning.

Hmmm -- it is starting to sound like a lifelong pattern of locking myself in or out of places!

I have a nasty habit of locking my keys in my car. Once in a while it'll be running too.
