Today is rainy and dreary, so I tried my SAD lamp for the first time. I'm not sure if it's psychosomatic, but I do feel better. The lamp I bought is called a "Travelite" by Northern Light Technologies. As some of you know I travel a little bit for work and I wanted something that I could take with me on trips. My lamp cost $225. Yes that is a lot of money, but if it saves me from dipping so low that I need to miss work it's well worth it.

Here's the link to Northern Light Technologies website: http://www.northernlighttechnologies.com/

Just wanted to share my experience.

Dear BlueOctober,, I am so happy for you~! Anything that helps is so welcome, i know,, and to be able to take it with you, and have no side effects,, it's wonderful~. I thought you might post this in the "Alternative Therapies" section of the Forum, for other people with Seasonal Affective Disorder. Again, congratulations~! Gus

I hope you'll continue to have positive results with it the lamp. It's unfortunate they're so expensive.

I think light and warmth (I was prescribed a heat lamp by a doctor for my shoulder ache :-) are always comforting and can make us feel better, especially on a rainy day! Glad your investment is looking like a good one for you.

Thanks for all your responses. Nothing beats being out in the actual sun, but if that's not possible this seems to help.

I had an employee who used a lamp for her SAD - she was very pleased with the results. At the time I was nursing, so I took breaks to go to the mother's room in the health clinic. I suggested that she use the same facility for her daily break, since she needed privacy and electricity. It worked out well - the clinic didn't really need to know her details.
