Quick question about the "love hormone" oxytocin....(not oxycontin the painkiller) .... is it legal? Has anyone bought it online and had positive results? Is the stuff online any good or is it fake?
I have a long history of depression, anxiety etc. and instead of being needy towards other people (I am addicted to hugs but can't always get them) it would be nice to take a spray. Traditional rx meds have been pretty ineffective, even according to my T. Would this help at all? Or is this just a very very sad question to begin with? ![]() |

Oxytocin is a hormone your body makes. Taking it like a drug might make you less anxious around people but would not make you want hugs any less I don't think. It's expensive and not studied clinically at all. Very interesting article, where this journalist tried it on herself: Can Oxytocin Get Me A Boyfriend? | Popular Science

It is available as a prescription drug, but it is unpleasant to use and it doesn't last very long. You are better off making your own.
Maybe you can get this book through your library: The Moral Molecule: The Source of Love and Prosperity: Paul J. Zak: 9780525952817: Amazon.com: Books It describes experiments on things that trigger oxytocin and most don't involve touch. |

Thanks to you both- good reads/great links. I wish I could take something to feel secure and mellow. The neediness even drives my T crazy-- I dread his "empathy fatigue".

....because getting pregnant to feel good is out of the question.

You can learn to take care of yourself and become secure and mellow in yourself/around others :-) It takes time though! You'll get there, I'm sure. Don't worry about your T, that's your T's problem (to worry about him/herself).
