Thanks for this!

Try Vitamin D. My nutritionist said 2000 IU a day is recommended and safe.

I've heard that fish oil supplements don't really do much, but I've never tried them.

I have been told fish oil( EPA & DHA) are helpful for depression. I used to take 8-12 per day, but cannot afford to do it continually. Interesting, I did feel better. Hmm.....

If you need to strengthen your glial cells sure then it can help. Being short of fat inside your brain inhibits nerve impulses. They say fish oil is superior but people through the times have made it with the food there was so... you could try flax seeds and see if it makes a difference. Crushed seeds dissolve easier, put 1-2 spoonfuls in water in a bowl and let sit in the fridge over night. This creates a not so wonderful goop that if doing nothing else, is very good for your bowels, LOL.

When increasing anything omega 3, try also decrease omega 6 since the balance is very important.
Thanks for this!

I find fish oil helpful. It could never bring me out of a seriously, dark depression, but it's helpful for moderate/mild depression. I've been taking it everyday for a long time now. I feel like it gives me a clear head and more stability. It definitely has made a difference.

I'm an high-level athlete and I take 3000 UI of Vitamin D3 and 1800 mg of EPA/DHA (fish oil) on a daily basis and I didn't have a depression in years. Dosage could vary from person to the other but the one I use is the result of years of education on the subject and personal experimentation.

Coupled with gym 3 times a week, depression will be a thing of the past, trust me.

Those 2 supplements will chase depression, help with your cardiovascular health, your psychological health, your muscles, your bones, your brain, your mood, your sleep, so many other things, I have only good to tell you about them.

Highly recommend! Taken daily (without exception), it could change your life!

Omega 3 and 6 oils are very good for brain function and health.Fish oil can help depression,I find eating smoked salmon a little slice a day with my toast at breakfast helps a lot.
I can get it quite cheaply in the UK at ASDA(Walmart)supermarket. It is worth a try.
Vitamin D3 is very important, and a deficiency causes extreme tiredness and you can feel very ill indeed.
Thanks for this!

I had read that some studies had shown they worked.
The catch is that it was in higher dosages than the more common pills you get over the counter.
My former naturopath gave me recommendation of a brand and dosage but I stopped taking them a while back and didn't really see a difference.

I take 2 1400mg (900mg o3) fish oil a day and am bipolar...mostly the depressed state is what gets me.

I still get depression eventhough I take it. I take it for different reasons. I am a piscatarian (vegetarian that eats fish) so I use it for nutrition/brain function.

St John's Wort is supposed to help with depression if you're looking for natural.

I just started taking a multivitamin, and Omega 3-6-9 supplement (fish oil, flax and borage). I'm also trying to eat a more balanced diet (I really let it slide lately). Too early to tell if it will make a difference.

St. John's Wort can cause mania though.

My pdoc said the 1,000 mg that makes it beneficial has to be EPA. There is a product at GNC that has this.

I take 1,350 of high grade fish oil, 75mg of dhea, vitamin b6 x 200 and magnesium for inflammation. I'll admit these drugs are for fertility reasons, but still I'm full of anxiety at the moment and have a bad headache!

I also take fish oil. I don't know if it's helping me but can't hurt.

I've heard that it can help prevent psychosis, but don't know much about depression.

I used to take them when I was first diagnosed. I found that they didn't really work for me, but then again, I was pretty unhealthy at the time. I had to kick myself in the pants to get myself healthy again.
