"Oh, I love them little mouses,
Mouses is what I love to eat. Bite off they little heads, Nibble on they tiny feet."

Poor little mousie!!!!!
I was good at catching them in my no harm traps & taking them up to the vacant house that my neighbor started to build & then left to fall apart. Think I overran that house with the mice I caught. I was finally getting so over run by mice I decided to use the poison that comes in the little packages they eat through & eat the poison.....haven't been bothered since then. Hadn't had mice in my house since the man that brought my new refrig ended up squishing the little mouse that had made his home under my old refrig. Wasn't until just last fall when I brought home some groceries (french bread in specific) that I found I had mice in my house again......when I found the wrapping in the french bread eaten through & a huge chunck nibbled out of the bread. They had to have been eating at it for quite some time before I realized it. That was when I put the bread & the poison in my walk-in closet.....the bread was never touched after that & the poison had been eaten into. Haven't seen a mouse since then. I feel guilty killing them....would rather take them up to the vacant house, but really got tired of chasing them around my rooms in order to catch the ones that refused to get trapped. If they hadn't overrun my house, I probably would have still been a mice friendly home. With 5 dogs that hate cats, couldn't bring a cat into my house.....the mice would run right under my dog's nose without them doing anything with the mouse.....but Leo did love to chase the one around the dining room before I finally caught him in the huge container I have to hold their dog food (it was empty at the time)

Better watch out Pachy - there may be some mouse fans here lol. I can hear the stampede coming.
![]() ![]() When I was a kid we had this black Persian cat who was an outdoor cat. We used to call him Killer because he would hunt and bring back his prey. One summer we had to put a bell on him because he was raiding all the birds nests. He used to bring them still alive to show us. One time he had a mouse and when he put it down it got lost in the grass. I felt sorry for my cat, so I preceded to sweep the grass with my foot...trying to find the mouse. Next thing I know, I felt this furry thing climbing up the inside of my pants. ![]()

I can just see that dance now (((Lynn)))lol......& they think the salsa is quite the dance......Lynn's "Mousie" dance is definitely more animated.
I do a similar dance when I think a spider has crawled up my leg ![]()

Mice that come into the house from outside are a different story. My (previous) cat was a great hunter, so they didn't last long in the house. He never ate them, but he did kill them. I don't like using traps, so I'd just let him do his thing and take it out to the garbage afterward. I was at the computer one day when I noticed him toying with a mouse right next to me. The mouse appeared unharmed, but my cat was not allowing it to move. I wasn't sure what to do, so I just sat there. My (previous) dog came into the room and noticed the mouse. She kept looking at me with a very puzzled look, occasionally letting out a whimper to get my attention focused on the mouse. My dog waited until my cat took his eyes off the mouse. At that moment, she scooped up the mouse into her mouth and walked to the back door - whining to go outside, the mouse's tail sticking out of her mouth. I let her outside and ran to the window to watch as she gently set the mouse down onto the ground and he ran off to freedom.....or maybe into the mouth of Pachyderms cat, lol. |

I've had pet rats.....but not pet mice.....however the mice in my house thought they owned it for awhile before I took to more discouraging ways if getting them gone.
I was laying on my bed reading one night & I caught a movement on my curtains......thinking it was a spider, I looked closer....there was a little mouse running up my curtain. I don't have the wood moulding around my windows yet.....after the new windows & frames were put in when I first moved in here....just haven't gotten around to it.....but the little mouse jumped into that area & found his way between the bricks & the plasterboard probably into my attic. Had another time when I was down in the kitchen....I have a hole in my ceiling where they repaired the pipe coming out of my master shower that was leeking.....I heard a sound in that area & thought it was a mouse running around between the floors of my house. I tried to toss a bag of that decon mice killer (the kind they eat through the bag & get to the poison).....took quite a few tries for me to get it into that little hold & to stay up there. I walked upstairs awhile later & found that the noise was coming from one of my eskie dogs that was laying in my shower........grrrrrrr.....I was a bit angry at my eskie for scaring me like that.....but on the other hand, glad it wasn't a mouse.

B Kliban used it in his great cat cartoons, I didn't know it was an actual poem! I bought a lot of his stuff in the 80's, they are still making his calendars even though he passed, I believe.

Hankster, you're right it was Kliban, not Williams. I love Kliban's work. I have a couple of his books. |

My kitty chases everything moving [except the flies in the house.. she finally realized it is not worth it since they greatly outnumber her]
There is poison in the basement which wards off mouse pretty well. We found one outside by our porch the other day. He was hardly moving and so fricken cute that I fed him bird seeds. I felt bad for him.. What if my cat tried to eat a mouse that had previously eaten poison? I always get so nervous when she eats spiders and ants and etc... those things don't cause reactions in cats though, do they? [they are not venomous spiders, we don't have those in the mountains.]

LadyJane, a cat or dog that eats a poisoned mouse can get sick from the poison.
