honestly, it is my only food vice

I have just eaten a whole bag of green grapes while browsing this site. I felt bloated halfway through and did not want to finish them but still finished them. For today, these grapes would not be my only fruit. Also, several apples.

It is not all that bad because overabundance of fruit keeps me well hydrated, potentially protects against cancer, provides fiber etc. It certainly could have been worse - I could have been eating empty calories.

But still, it is way too much and I do not know how to stop it.

well, it depends how ripe the fruit are. The riper the fruit, the higher the sugar content. If you ate :"green apples"-apple not quite ripe-increase the "transit time" of the fruit through your gastrointestinal tract. It could cause "accidents", increased bloating, flatus, and trips to BR. Each person's bowels are different, so you will have to work up the amount of fruit so the timing is predictable. I have no problem talking about this kind of issue as I believe it is part of the body's nature process and should never be considered in negative term. e.g. I think sometimes it has gotten a "bum rap".

Like you said, at least it's not empty calories.

You might get a little container some a RubberMaid dish or something you could put a handful of grapes in to have with you while you surf the internet. When that's done, if you're still hungry, get some more, if not, make yourself wait a certain amount of time till you eat again. Also, have a cup of tea or something that doesn't have any calories so you feel like you're being deprived.

One of the most important things you can do for yourself in controlling your weight is NOT attaching moral value to various foods such as deciding it's wrong to eat chocolate unless you have a physical or moral reasons to do so--hope that makes sense. By allowing yourself the freedom to eat what you want, when you want it, you lessen the chances of overeating because you're satisfied. You also want to be sure and eat when you're hungry.
Thanks for this!

I will try tea. I drink a lot of tea and I will try that idea.

I do eat chocolate (dark chocolate) every day for fun and for health benefits.

The fruit that I eat is more often than not underripe as I like the sour taste more than the sweet taste.

why are you snacking, might be the better question. Also, how can you eat so much, ie volume, while taking topamax? and if you are taking metformin, should you be snacking? I have pretty much stopped snacking and just have meals. my issue was not having a big enough breakfast, followed by an early enough and substantial enough lunch. Then fruit (ie ONE apple) and veg and hummus will suffice for dinner. The sugar in the fruit might be making you more hungry? Or are you eating something very salty before it, that makes you crave an excess of fruit? I know that restricting salt in my diet curbs my appetite, just because when I DO have salt, my appetite can become insatiable.

I have not started on Topomax yet - it is in the mail for me now. I eat a low sodium diet as a rule - I do not like salty foods, with the exception of pretzels which I pretty much gave up because I thought that they were empty calories plus I am trying to not eat wheat when I can.

or adding protein to the fruit will make it more filling. maybe you have to do like they said with meat, view it as a condiment, not the main portion of your meal. actually, I DO see it as the the main portion of my meal, like a honeycrisp apple with feta cheese or peanut butter.
Thanks for this!

Also I eat Gravenstein apples now which have a short season. So at least this part of the problem will get resolved by itself.

Hankster, but if fruit is a condiment AND meat is a condiment, then what is your main dish - non-root vegetables?
