I haven't had it but know a few people that have had great success. but you have to understand it is only a tool. it is a complete lifestyle change. I considered it but just couldn't afford it and I am happy to say now I don't qualify.

A few, initially. But then they began eating again and gained weight.
Have you checked into the side effects? My idea is this: if I could survive on 4 oz of food for each meal, I'd do it without the surgery (and the intense nausea from it).... for most surgeries, I hear that's the initial results... I think if a person can invest in psychotherapy to find out why the body "is allergic to food: it breaks out in fat" ... it might be a better, long term investment? I personally know that when I'm stressed, and the body dumps the cortisol, that I will NOT maintain my weight and will probably gain. If I go on a diet and am stressed, I will gain, not lose. I must work at the "mind over matter" issue... doing calming exercises, eat with purpose etc. IDK how much you have tried. I do know how frustrating it can be to be a heavy person and not have "anything" work to slim down. Good wishes.

Yes! I had the duodenal switch six years ago and have kept off 220 pounds just fine. There are several different kinds of weight loss surgery, so you'll want to do your research on all of them.
However, I had weight loss surgery after some fourteen years of intensive therapy. It was a good seven years before I could even sit in a session when my weight or my eating problems were mentioned, three more years to become ready to do therapeutic work on those issues, and a good four years of twice a week sessions with a LOT of deep, hard work involved. Sometimes I still self medicate with food. The DS is far more forgiving of that than are other procedures, but it's still work to keep my mind in the game and doing what I need to do for my health and well being. |

i wish i could have surgery to remove my weight, not a bypass or anything, lipo to suck out the fat and a tummy tuck to rid the stretched skin. it would make transferring myself much easier. my last doc would not help me 'until i can walk' yeah right, the legs don't move cos the brain ain't talking to them not becaust they are too fat! lets hope i get more help from my new one.
I know a man who had his stomach reduced, he lost quite a bit of weight initially, but instead of eating healthy small meals he took the idea that whatever he ate should be what he enjoyed and that was puddings and chocolate! soon he stopped losing weight and as he stretched his stomach again by over eating he began putting weight back on! ok he is still smaller than when he started, but i doubt it will be long before he is back to the beginning. |
