Hello I am Marylin 50 years old.I have had weight issues all my life.
I am overweight and overeat.I am trying to lose weight cos I am classed as morbidly obese.I have diabetes and hypothyroidism as well as schizoaffective disorder and PTSD.I also have a Dowager's Hump which affects my mobility.I am dieting right now but am scared i will go back to eating too many sugary treats which make me ill cos of the diabetes and it is important to keep my blood sugars low. With the other illnesses and the lack of mobility cos of the Dowagers Hump and also depression I struggle on a daily basis.Today has been a bad day mood wise and I was hoping to come on here for some support.

((((Marylin))))

As a CL, one of my roles is to ensure that threads don't go unresponded. I feel for your sweet tooth. That's a tough one to vanquish. I found drinking flavored seltzer water, helps me, immensely. My neurologist even gave a scientific reasoning for it. Was an impromptu discussion based upon his having one at his desk, one appointment, and I'd asked if he was on the seltzer water bandwagon, and that I was and that I'd found it helped curb sugar cravings.

Hi Marylin. I have had issues with being overweight and overeating most of my life (I can specifically remember dieting as a 9 year old ). I have issues with cravings of all kinds, specifically when I am stressed, tired, or depressed. I usually have a problem with salty/greasy/fattening foods (read: pizza, lol) but I can also have an issue with sweets. I am a vegetarian and have been for years and years. I've found that if I am paying attention to how much protein and fiber I'm getting (because it's really easy for me to eat junk and not get nearly enough) then I don't crave as much. I wonder if this would help you at all?

Hello Healing4 me and MissKeena,
Thank you for your replies.I find it isn't just the sugary sweets but carbohydrates I crave and if I go too long without high carb foods I get irritable and low in moods.I have had success losing weight on the Atkins program but can't go the distance with it due to it being very low carb.Recently feel much better mood wise and will stick with it to try to achieve my goals. It is another low mood and more severe depression I dread as that sends me spiralling down onto chocolate and creme cakes. It is good to know others here understand.
Thanks again!
Marylinx

. Hello and a big warm WELCOME to Psych Central. I'm very tempted to say "you've found home", although it sounds so dramatic! It's home for me and has been for a few years. Oh YES, totally and absolutely know where you are with the life long weight issues, the "Limmits" slimming products when I was 12 etc. My family have been and are, compulsive eaters, therefore I thought everyone ate as much as we did, I thought everybody poured golden syrup all over breakfast cereals and on ice cream or whatever. I'm now 56 and have had severe eating disorders for more than 33 years. ~~. That's ALL of the eating disorders, anorexia, bulimia, binge/starve, slimming drugs, slimming clubs, compulsive eating and a life revolving around either getting food or avoiding food!!!! I've been hospitalised a number of times, three for depression and anorexia, then I gained a huge amount of weight and attempted suicide due to the "shame" of my weight. So yeah, I understand some of your important issues. It must be so frustrating having limited mobility, so many people can just get out and exercise, doesn't sound as though you can. Anyways, hope to see you around soon.

Remember those funny little chocolate bars? I think they were called AYDS
The cabbage diet?
The don't eat anything white diet
I even tried one where part of it was drinking an ounce of vinegar before
every meal

I thought the same things about another forum i am joining. I really have to handle my eating problem. I tried juicing and lost 20 pounds then started eating again and gained weight. I am afraid to see hie much i have gained back.

I have to take control of some part of my life.
