isn't it so hard?

i want to know how people deal with this.. i just made a list of things i need to buy, and ordered the lot online- so chocolate, potato chips, cookies, candy- plus meals, drinks, stuff for the house..

why

i know that chocolate and potato chips and stuff arn't essentials- meals sure, because their's nothing to eat- drinks sure

but why..

i don't understand why i have to order these so called, "essentials", when actually all they do in the end is make you feel guilty

Hello shattered sanity: Well, I recall reading something about this recently... something to do with the brain requiring a lot of energy & things like chocolate, chips, cookies & candy providing a quick shot of energy... Anyway, I guess that's sort-of the scientific explanation. Personally, I have a sweet tooth. So I love cookies, cakes, ice cream, you name it. I also relish potato chips! Oh... & then there's MIXED NUTS! I could eat them by the pound! Anyway... I don't know how one gets past this. I just try to not let it get out-of-hand...

All I know is what has worked for me, and it was by no means easy to do or a quick fix, it took years to get to this point ... I quit buying certain items one at a time and no longer allowed them in my home ... Soda's were the first to go, then chips, then candies, etc. ... It took several years to achieve this as I've struggled with compulsive overeating for over 45 years ... I still treat myself a time or two a week so I don't feel totally deprived, but as far as buying any of it in bulk at the grocery store and bringing it home, that's long gone and a no go!

Of course, I think both of us know that it's not what we're eating
that's the real issue, it's what's eating us; and, as we work on these
issues and allow ourselves to heal, the disordered eating will kinda take
care of itself along the way!

I love the odd treat and week after week of excess eating I am still convinced come shopping day that this will be the week I have iron fisted will power and not binge no matter what is in the house!!

I started online shopping because I hate crowds so I would forget half the things I needed because I was in a panic to get out also I don't buy that much naughty stuff at the store because I always think the cashier will judge my excess chocolate and ice cream supply with online shopping this is not a problem! It gets me every.damn.time so I have had to be really strict and buy just the basics. Some weeks are better than others but I am not gonna lie, if dark chocolate is on sale I am stocking up

I agree with the elimination process, I watched the sugar film and that scared me off soft drink/soda/fizzy drinks so its been gone from my house for a few months now, I am trying to eliminate most junk but unfortunately the rest of the household does not have the out of control eating habits I do so are able to enjoy the treats at a moderate pace, therefore they are not keen on catering to just suit me.... hopefully it gets easier soon for us both!

That is so true, once it's in the house it's fair game...I still have one son at home and I do all the shopping. I can buy certain things like peanut butter that will be perfectly safe but other things like tortilla chips or ice cream and I can't help myself. I have to just buy stuff he likes and I can avoid and just plan out a couple of treats a week I think. And like Pfrog said, it is what's eating us, so finding healthy ways of dealing with that too.

My skinny husband has a very sensitive tongue, so anything that he thinks tastes off, stale, or has a poor texture gets onto my plate. Due to our low budget, and how I was raised I don't let anything go to waste. He said his 2 boxes of ice cream drumsticks taste like the freezer door was opened and won't eat them because the ice cream texture is wrong. That is $13 of food I could have bought of veggies. Instead, I will be eating those - along with my own 20 fudgsicles he doesn't like. Delicious, but sad too.

And we did learn that he has 3 times or more as many tastebuds then I do - he isn't fussy by choice. So he loses weight, and the Dr.'s worry about him, and I gain and gain. I try not to be angry about all the food he buys but won't eat... it is junk food because prepared food worries his OCD about dust, bacteria, hair on food.

Maybe I need to start throwing the stuff out, or leaving it and maybe he would feel bad and eat more of it...... but it is also delicious. He doesn't mind my size, and it would be disrespectful of me to be annoyed with his eating habits back. So I try to keep my opinions to myself, made a reminder note that is on my computer. But I feel bad that he is losing weight, and I am eating so much. I wish I was on adderall (kidding - his med that makes him feel not hungry).

So for me, I shop all the outside of the store, dairy, meat (only a little), veggies, frozen (ice cream and veggies), and maybe 1-2 bags of chips a month, 1 box crackers, then beans, rice, noodles, canned fruit and veggies - but for him, we buy nearly all junk food and a roast with gravy. But now, with half the month left, he has already rejected alot of the food. He will eat things like a bag of popcorn and water, and that will be all. He told his Dr. the reason he is losing weight is because of our budget - but I feel like that is blaming me. He says it isn't blaming me, but it seems to me he is just indulging his fussy tongue.

I shop online too - free delivery from Walmart.com if you buy $50 or more. Haven't carried dog food home in over a year.

Ooh, I have a question for you regarding shopping. This is what I was thinking:
You order out a lot. I have mentioned how I wish I could. At the moment I am thinking, if I could have whatever I wanted, I would like to buy those $4 Bolthouse Farms Juices that are so healthy and nummy. I was thinking, you can buy whatever you want nearly, and you choose to eat out often.

So my question is, does shopping inside grocery stores make you uncomfortable - is that part of the reason you carry out often. Is it because they have drive thru?

You don't have to answer if you don't want. I guess what I was exploring is, "Are there reasons other then food that you prefer take out?"

For yourself, you might want to consider that. Is it just the food, is it time, is it avoiding people in stores?

Just think of the freedom you have! You can buy nearly ANYTHING YOU WANT! What heaven, and also from your perspective - what a burden to know that you can have anything you want, and maybe sometimes wish you couldn't.

<3 Really enjoying getting to know other peoples issues with food.
