Just had it out with my depressed 19 year old. Once again she lost control (yelling, screaming, slamming things). She is so verbally mean and then an hour latter wants everyone back to normal. I just can't adjust my emotions that quickly. I understand she has a problem, but I don't want to be her whipping boy. Well........ thanks for listening

Totally know where you're coming from. I think it's just human nature not to be able to change that quickly.

Maybe some professional counselling can help you 2 work at a better outcome with such behaviour?
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the support! I thought at first I was all alone in this. I didn't realize that depression had all these reactions. I hope your situation gets better too!

Don't accept any more of that abuse. If sitting down and discussing this doesn't work, then yes, therapy is needed for her to learn how she doesn't need to attack you via outbursts just to get her point across.
Acknowledging her frustration, giving each other time to talk, even agreeing to disagree can be worked out with a 19 yo, imo. She needs to learn to attack the problem with all that energy, not her mom! TC ![]()
