My little man took a nose dive off the porch this evening. Freaking!!! Can anyone share??? If he'd not gotten his hands up under him at all, we would be at the e.r. I just know it.

He fell into the gravels and slid and hit mouth. He had two puncture type wounds in his lower lip that closed right up but he kept crying with his tooth. He shoved one of his teeth back a bit and it feels a little loose. I JUST FREAKED. I called the dr. and they said to call the dentist tomorrow to see if he should be seen. The dr on call was so nice and helped to calm me. I'm telling ya, I was freaking! He's never been hurt under my care. Freaking!!! Can anyone share??? I'm too old for this! LOL

Has this happened to anyone here, or that you know? What was the result? It's pushed back just a bit, but feels a bit loose to the touch. Will it strengthen back up? Any shared stories for my knowledge please!!!

Thanks!

KD

My daughter, Abby, got knocked in the tooth about a month ago (my other daughter accidently hit Abby's mouth with her head). It made her tooth VERY loose, and I took her to the dentist so they could have a look at it. They said just to let her eat soft foods, and it would strengthen back up. And it did. Freaking!!! Can anyone share??? Her tooth isn't loose anymore.

I'm glad Little Man didn't get hurt worse! It's not your fault, though... (and I'm sure you know this already), but all kids get hurt one way or the other.. I know my three do anyway.. heh heh..

KD, I used to work for a dentist when we were in high school.

Check it in the morning, make sure he doesn't play with it and make it loose more. It should be ok as long as he leaves it alone. If it happens to come out, put it in a glass of milk. That will keep the tooth from drying out till you can get him to the dentist. At his age they would try to replant it if the tooth is still in good shape.

thank you both so much! It's a tad loose but not horribly. It is displaced somewhat and will probably stay that way I'd say. He won't quit playing with it with his tongue because it's different and he feels it.

i'm calling dentist in the a.m. thank you for helping ot calm me.

my daughter was hit in the mouth with a huge rocky horse. not to scare you but she had to have a tiny hole drilled in to take out the nerve. nothing to it. kids bounce back really quick. the tooth should tighten back up though

When my son was 2 (long time ago, lol!) he tripped, wasn't even running, he just step forward to see the video game his cousins were playing, then tripped on the video wire at my sister-in-laws and banged his face on their fireplace hearth, mostly the mouth, cut lips and loads of blood coming out, well the teeth were loosened, didn't fall out and the er doc said sometimes they will tighten back up, but naturally if a kid has already lost their baby teeth, then it's more of a concern. My son's lip was sogashed, they thought of a suture but the kid would probably panic, poor kid was so good, but yet so pathetic.
I hope "little man" recuperates asap.

Kids are resilient. He's gonna be fine. If he can't leave the tooth alone, the dentist could wire it, temporarily, to bind it where it belongs.

When I was about 7, I tripped on some concrete stairs, and fell face forward right into the edge of a stair. I drove my teeth right through my lower lip. I could smile twice. Heh. Not. I wasn't smiling much.

Loose teeth got strong again, but I found out 20 years on that I had lost the nerve in one of my front incisors, and needed a root canal. Didn't feel a thing. The root was dead. I probably lost it in that fall.

A dentist will watch over all that stuff for you. He can tell from an x-ray if the root was damaged, and how it is healing if it was.

Most lost teeth are re-implantable. Even for adults. If only they would preserve them long enough to get re-implanted. The best preservative is saliva. Lost teeth should be held in the cheek until you can get to a dentist. Milk, being high in calcium, is a distant second best. Or, so I was told. Even water is better than nothing.

Thank you so much again, everyone! I feel so much better!

This morning it already doesn't feel as loose (and I know that might be in my head Freaking!!! Can anyone share??? ).

Also, it doesn't appear to be as far back as it was. He sucked on his tootie all night last night (Yes, that's the last thing we're working on for a "big boy"). Last night I was glad for it! LOL.

We're calling dentists this a.m. and will take it from there.

My concern at this point is the nerve...I hope it wasn't severely damaged. He ate icecream really good last night. Freaking!!! Can anyone share???

thank you (((((((((((((elaine)))))))))))))))))

everyone...

I took him to the dentist. She said that it should strengthen up on its own and to just watch for signs of abcess as that can happen when the nerve has been distressed as much as his obviously has been. So, we'll watch! Other than that, he should just just fine.

I was so proud of him! He was a trooper. Everyone there was going nuts of this cutie! He even held the x-ray thing on his own while we all stepped out of the room and the dentist was AMAZED that the picture was so good!

Thank you all for helping to calm me until I got to the dentist! I've been through alot, but this one wasn't in my "book of experience". Freaking!!! Can anyone share???

There's boys, and there's boys. I am 49, and the only stitches I ever had were on purpose. As in, "I consent to surgery."

Up until 2 years ago, I had never fractured a bone, either. My elder son, Al, has had so many casts, we have to talk about specific incidents, to make ourselves understood. The "left ankle ski-boarding" fracture, versus that other one. Or is it other ones? Or, whatever. My younger son's knees are a mess of scars. Mine still look like all the rest of me. Thomas, the younger, just tore a muscle in his shoulder going off the 3 meter board. I wish I'd seen that. He must have not entered the water squarely, or something.

jennie one thing to remember is not to make a big deal of it!!! this way when he is really hurt he will let you know. when my kids would fall or bump a knee I would make like I was laughing therefore they would laugh too unless they were really hurt. it worked!!
