Ok, so my otherwise VERY healthy 37-year-old husband just got pneumonia. And I've been trying to figure out how in the world someone like him could catch pneumonia.

And then I freaked out, thinking of one thing.

What if I gave him HIV. Freaking out...not sure how to ask him this...

I've been tested every 6 months and I'm clean. I just got tested last weekend in fact. But yeah...I have not exactly been the most faithful wife. He knows about part of my past, but not all of it. I did tell him to go get tested 2 years ago but I'm not sure if he ever did.

I don't know that I've ever been with anyone who had it, and I use condoms every time, but there's always a small risk even with that. I'm just really freaking out now.

Am I just freaking out unnecessarily?? Or should I maybe say something to him or his doctor?

Why else would a healthy 30-something man get pneumonia in the middle of spring??!! Isn't it usually the elderly and kids who get it, and usually in the winter? Or am I just clueless?

I have known healthy 20 year olds that have gotten pneumonia in the spring.
I wouldn't worry to much about it but when he is feeling better maybe you could ask him to get checked. Freaking out...not sure how to ask him this...

Hmm...I just read this on mayoclinic.com as one of the risk factors:

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>

Are exposed to certain chemicals or pollutants. Your risk of developing some uncommon types of pneumonia may be increased if you work in agriculture, construction or around certain industrial chemicals or animals. Exposure to air pollution or toxic fumes can also contribute to lung inflammation, which makes it harder for the lungs to clear themselves.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

But I'm confused, because he specifically asked the doctor about the construction going on at his work. He works at a retail store and they are remodeling, and they have been tearing out concrete, so there is tons of dust all over, but he has to work thru it. We originally thought his cough was related to that. So....I guess it's possible that the dust fragments got into his lungs and caused the infection? Why would the doctor say that it wasn't related? Hmm...

I just hope he's okay. I am feeling soooooooo incredibly guilty seeing him suffer. I'm doing everything I can to help him but I just hate to see him in so much pain.

My very healthy brother-in-law got it when he was 23. He got over it, he's fine. He was also working in a construction type setting.

i used to freak out about HIV too. A while after I broke up with my ex I found out that the number of women he told me he slept with was actually much higher than he said. Then I started noticing every little thing possible. I thought my lymph nodes were swollen, I was getting sick etc... I got tested and it came back negative and ever since then I have stopped freaking out.

If you get tested every 6 months and its always negative I would say youre fine. He would have other symptoms before his immune system would be low enough to randomly get pneumonia.
