When am I allowed time to work on me. I am bipolar yet I am taking care of many around me. I told my husband I am stressed and need a break. He laughed and asked what reason do you have to be stressed. Lets see I'm taking care of our child pretty much on my own, I take care of him since he is in a wheelchair, I get sick or my BP gets out of control who cares , but if anyone else is sick or needs help I have to be there. I help him with every aspect of living that a normal person takes for granted. He acts sometimes like its nothing. I am burnt out. Is this normal for care givers?

Nope...you aren't losing your mind, nor are you crazy. I too have been "doing it all" off and on for longer than I care to remember. I am burnt out and often feel guilty for wishing that I could be someone else or somewhere else.

Living with someone who is ill or disabled is just as difficult as being that way. Unfortunately, those who are in our care cannot see it that way. My prayers go out to you. And I think that finding others who can empathize is a great idea.

Keep the faith.
