After 2 long years of evaluation and psychotherapy:

I have been dx'd with NPD and HPD.
I have no idea what to do next.

I've been going through evaluations and observations since I was 14 and I never thought possible they would actually diagnose it.

*sigh*
I'm not really sure where to go from here

You know dx do get a whole bad press...the average joe on the street reads something about some murderer or some other crazed bod and see a label attached to them and then run with that...I think most people in long term treatment could all be dx with NPD or HPD, because we are all stunted emotionally and the first phase anyone passes through when they come into this world is narcissim, the narcissim of king baby?..it just dont look cute on an adult....just keep on working on yourself in therapy to allow the feelings and the adult to really mature and your be fine...

Well I don't think you have to 'do' anything but to continue your therapy and learn more about yourself. These diagnoses are just words that correspond to the ways that you relate to others based on your perceptions.

Keep learning and growing in your therapy.

After years of wondering about my short fuse and sometimes notable lack of diplomacy - (usually under pressure as my own thread explains, I just now put it all down to a "state of mind" - nothing more , nothing less.

The only problem is - how to deal with one's conditions!!!

quote-
"and the first phase anyone passes through when they come into this world is narcissim, the narcissim of king baby?..it just dont look cute on an adult....just keep on working on yourself in therapy to allow the feelings and the adult to really mature and your be fine..."

OMG - that makes such sense, never learning to mature or not having to...
But......it's still a state of mind ....... try beating it and I bet it is so difficult, especially if one does not have the will to even want to try to change.
Trouble is, that evaluation does not help the NPD person or their victims.

The first thing I would say is does the "narcissistic" poster post on here because they want help or because they want to carry on being narcissistic because it is their way.

For example, after years of ADHD symptoms and others (as per my most recent "pigeonhole" post, without meds, it will never change for me... so I would still be the add monster with snappiness...........
All I can do is rule out brain damage/traumas, health/nutrition/neurotransmitter balances/genetics first, which is what I am doing now......

So I have NPD also, and learning about yourself blows. At least it does for me. Apparently I'm not very insightful. But don't worry so much about the labels, and like others said you personally don't need to do anything. Hell, I'm in therapy (since I was 12/13) and I still don't fully understand the NPD. And I don't care.

I'm not too familiar with HPD. I know that that's histrionic, but what exactly does it entail? That's like the only disorder I don't have in the cluster B of personality disorders. I got the other 3 covered... pretty well I may add.

Dear Sara,

Have you reviewed the following section, of PsychCentral:

http://psychcentral.com/personality/

There, you will find a discussion of the symptoms and the treatment, of each of the personality disorders, you were diagnosed with. My thoughts are, understanding and embracing the diagnosis, i.e., unless you clearly disagree with the diagnosis, is, a first and a necessary step, in the path to recovery.

I wish you the best,

Larry
