My therapist works at the school counseling center and technically i'm only allowed so many sessions even though the rules are adjusted to accomodate special needs. She recently told me that she thinks we should end soon because a) she thinks therapy for 'survivors' should be done in chunks and she thinks this chunk is done for now
b) she thinks i will need a break sometime soon
c) she isn't sure how well she's meeting the obligations of her other students/patients because of the time taken up with me.

she gave me the choice of either the end of the summer or fall...what should i do? i don't think i'll be ready to quit therapy then but i've been with her for several months so how do i start with someone new? the last T i had got a new job and moved away...so i'm wondering if i should just give up on therapy all together. any ideas?

Hi shadowdancer and welcome!

Please don't give up on therapy. It sounds like you are getting benefit from it and may not want to stop. Maybe you could talk to your therapist about being uncomfortable with quitting completely and she can keep you on her schedule as she can after your "allowed" sessions are over. You can at least be looking for a new therapist while still on her schedule and she'll probably help you with the transition.

Hope this helps or sparks an idea for you, take care and hugs.

Is there a chance of going back to her for the holidays, for another "chunk" if need be? If so, then I would end at summer end... perhaps the gap will be justifiable for her? Otherwise, if you won't ever be seeing her again, perhaps begin looking for another T now? Good wishes.
