Does this happen to anyone else?

When I don't sleep for a really long time I start hearing music in my head. I was wondering if that was from a lack of sleep, or if it is something that comes from my nerve deafness?

I also wondered if anyone has completely slept though a day and a half without being aware of it? In the past, if I slept a long time I was aware of time, but this time---I can't remember going to bed or anything I must have done just prior to sleeping--my cat was fed, and all the other pre-bed things were done.

I have not dissociated for years. (I'm slightly worried that the way I was hospitalized and the things that happened while there may have caused dissociation -I don't see my therapist until Wednesday)I seemed to have misplaced Friday and I still can't stay awake today. I've gone longer without sleep than this and haven't had this kind of reaction. The only difference is being on Topormax my doctor increased it to 50mg am and 50mg pm a couple weeks ago. So far the only real side effects is eating less, but I haven't lost any weight so I'm not worried about it. I'm hoping this is just some abnormality and not a start of many periods of lost times.

I hear music all the time. Mainly that annoying Ice Cream truck toon. It's more annoying more than anything for me.

I feel like Im reading my own diary entry.
My most recent diagnonsense was PTSD.
My PDoc blames PTSD for ALL my symptoms which range from those of Anxiety to depression, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, insomnia, addiction, dissacociation, and so on.

I am kinda glad you posted your thread in this forum vs the psychosis forum, cuz it helps me question my own symptoms.

I also hear music sometimes when i am over tired. I also sometimes hear babies crying. (the worst sound ever). and sometimes it sounds like I am in a train or subway station, there is the sound of hustle and bustle of people in my head...

Perhaps we should address our PTSD.

I have lost many moments of time, but fortunately I dont rmember what I have missed so I cant miss it.

I have slept for 36 or so hours myself.

I honstly dont know why.

Not really sure how to fix it all except for really putting lots of effort into therapy... and I dont have the energy for that right now.

I really hope you will not be so hard on yourself, as I am.

It's just music afterall.

Hi I have sleeping problems and sometimes wont sleep good for several days. Then I start comming down phycially sick, and get tierd and sleep for hours. I know not sleeping causes me all kind of problems, first off I feel bad emotionally and I will play songs over and over in my head. Usally something I heard on radio that day or previous days. The meds could be causing some of it. Think about calling your doc and letting him know. maybe for some reassurance. Dont worry your not alone.

i'm not on meds and sometimes I hear static radio (like muffled radio trying to come through) with hints of music sometimes or sometimes inaudible talking when I am stressed out (it sounds like coming from outside not with in), at times lack of sleep with stress...

and at times there is screaming in my head of different people and myself when stressed-- that i do realize is with in me

i am not sure what it means... i take it as I am stressed out-- i know that is probably not a good solution... but I realize it is me..

I hope you well or get better; hope all well

Me too. It does not happen often though and I do hear it with my ears, not just in my head. I talked to my T about is and she recommended I tell my Pdoc. He said that it was just stress related and nothing to worry about. He could medicate for it if I wanted, but since it is only an annoyance, it is not necessary. I declined additional meds.

I hear stuff that isn't there. Sometimes it's music. Whatever it is, it is faint and sounds like off in the distance and I can't make it out clearly.

I have tinnitus. I read that hearing music that isn't there is not uncommon among people with tinnitus. Maybe the "nerve deafness" makes you susceptible to that also.

What you are describing is commonly referred to as "Musical Ear Syndrome."
The first time it happened to me, I was worried it was an hallucination until I researched the phenomenon a bit more.

It is commonly seen in people with lack of sleep, tinnitus, and hearing impairment or hearing loss. It can also happen more frequently when your environment is particularly quiet.

There is a growing collection of literature online about this, but the take home message is that this is a common phenomenon even in people without any history of mental illness.
