Triggered in the ER by a raving maniac convict handcuffed to a stretcher surrounded by loud yelling cops. Overwhelmed

Have not been right since. (Monday July 3rd)

Even breathing is overwhelming.

I can't get out of my own way.

How am I supposed to function IRL?

I'm sorry, (((((Petunia))))). I wish I had some words of wisdom for you that would make you feel better instantly. Do you have a therapist to talk things through with? All I can say is time...a little time, patience and taking care of yourself is the best way to get through this. Also, talking about your feelings to someone you trust in your life, or us here at PC. We all care.

Lots of love,
Zen

(((((hugs)))) I learned the hard way that I must tell the intake person that I suffer with PTSD. Their whole mentality changes and they make accomodations for me.. allowing me to sit some other place than in the waiting room etc... usually you can't leave the room, but they let me go outside for a breather from time to time or...whatever. Just gotta share it. Overwhelmed

Simple tasks are monumental. The phone rings and I have to be scraped off the ceiling.

How am I supposed to work and interact and be responsible when I can't think straight? Overwhelmed

((((hugs)))) sorry I forgot to address how you are feeling NOW Overwhelmed

Yes, I do too...hate these feelings... ok breathe... admit you have been triggered... you are safe now.... nothing's happening now.... it's what happens, it's PTSD... do what you can and do your best and leave it there... no guilt... it's not your fault... allow yourself to do less than you normally would... it's OK!!!! Petunia, I can relate. I've come to a place in my life where I simply don't ask myself to function at times like this when I've been triggered. I recognize that my need is simply to find comfort and peace in the moment and the rest of life will just have to wait until I'm good and ready for it. If I need to curl up on the sofa with a cup of soup and that's all I'm comfortable with, then that's going to be it for now. For me, it's part of accepting who I am and what my needs are as I work to heal from what -- and who -- gave me PTSD. My best advice is to be gentle with yourself and be patient with yourself. I know it's hard and I certainly know it's frustrating, but you deserve to have your needs met.

Be well,

mtd
