Hi Blackwithered, I just saw your thread, how are you doing now?
When you have a flashback, don't be frightened of it, it's just a memory, but yes, they can be very vivid. They don't last very long, they fade away, acknowledge it, tell yourself, yes you remember, but you are "ok" now. It's been a little over an hour, you may be stunned, a bit confused, but stay calm and keep reminding yourself whatever it was "that has passed" not now. If you want to talk about it you can. Sometimes it is good just to talk about it, even write it out here. ((Gentle Hugs))) OE |

Are you sure you don't have PTSD. Normally, flashbacks are caused by either that or psychosis...so you might want to get evaluated by a T or a Pdoc just to be sure.

Hi everyone, thanks for your support...
After it was over I just felt miserable... physically ill... I don't want to move on, I want to go back in time and undo what happened to me... And knowing there's little stopping it from happening again just makes me feel worse... I just hate this feeling and wish it would stop... I was told by a doctor that they ruled out PTSD, but I don't know why. I do have a history of psychosis, but my flashbacks are trauma related...

IMHO, I agree with HazelGirl, as far as I know flashbacks that connect to a past trauma
is PTSD. We cannot go back and change the past, but what really helps is reminding yourself that "yes" that happened, but you survived it and you are "ok" now. The more you do that the weaker the flashback will be, the goal is to get whatever it is to be "just a memory" that doesn't have the emotional challenges anymore. Everything we see and experience are things we retain in our memory, but these things are "passed" and we learn from them. I think you should get another opinion about your diagnoses. OE |
