I'm trying to find an intensive outpatient trauma based program near Nashville TN. The problem is that I have state insurance (not excepted by any I saw) and very little money. I am in therapy at a mental health center already but I am looking for something that specializes in trauma. I'm getting frustrated by my search results. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello BlindedByTheDark: Unfortunately, I can't be of any specific help with this. If I were looking for something like this where I live, I guess the way I would start is to check with local mental health organizations, the state mental health department, mental health advocacy programs, and perhaps suicide-prevention hotlines. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, for example, advertises that one doesn't have to be suicidal to call. They're there to help with any problem.

I know, from past experience, looking for specialized services can be a difficult & time-consuming job. And sometimes one never does find the needed service. But, on the other hand, sometimes the needed service, or something similar to it, does come along. So keep at it. Perhaps there are other PC members who will see your Thread who will have more specific suggestions. Good luck with this!

A crisis center is probably your best bet (your pdoc can probably refer you to one). You go there and tell them what you need/want and they give you some options. And you pick. And they set it up. And then you go.
You only have to pay them a normal mental health copay (I pay $15 but different state, different insurance).

Hey. I happen to be in the greater Nashville area. The Refuge Center in Nashville offers a group of counselors that are experienced in EMDR and they work on a sliding scale. Perhaps give them a call? They are the go-to resource for folks without a ton of spare cash or slightly less than stellar insurance.

The Refuge Center for Counseling || Professional Counseling Services

If they can't help you directly, they could refer you somewhere that would.
