i suffered from long term abuse and only started showing symptoms of PTSD when i turned 17. it was really bad and lasted for three and a half years.
now i still struggle from mental health issues due to trauma, but my PTSD symptoms have been almost non-existent lately. i mean, it's been a few months but i'm not used to it. i don't see a professional anymore, so i can't ask them this. but is this normal? idk how persistent PTSD is. does it last forever? does it come and go? those three years were horrible and i never thought i'd get out of it, but now i can do some things that i couldn't do back then. it's a good thing but does that mean i never had PTSD? or is that how PTSD works? i always thought it was a life-long thing, and i've been having a few good months, so it's all so bizarre to me. so basically, do ptsd symptoms come in episodes like other mental health issues? or?? i hope this makes sense my head's a bit foggy atm |

Hello sensatives: The Skeezyks cannot answer your question authoritatively. All I can say is that, for whatever reason, I have never gotten over the things that happened to me as a child & I'm now in my later 60's. I'm fairly certain this does not happen to everyone. But it is what happened with me.

PTSD is triggered and sometimes the triggers bring it all back in full memory reliving it again. Once those triggers go away the memories die down. It affects everyone differently. Mostly stress agitates and triggers the PTSD, everyone's thresh hold of tolerance is different. I am glad it has diminished some for you. And yes PTSD is for life but not consistent all the time... (((hugs))) tc

I've had PTSD for a decade, it's disabling. It depends on what's going on in your life. I have a teen so parenting her necessarily comes before my own rehabilitation . I imagine if you don't have any children it is easier to rehabilitate . I hope that helps. |

There can be days, months, even years that you don't suffer from the symptoms of PTSD. I don't know what that feels like, yet, but I do know it is possible. The most I have gone is a day. My doctors and social workers have told me that this is possible and have also educated me on the simple fact that it will never truly go away. It can always come back, even if it has been gone for years. So, I guess it is lifelong but not persistently so in every case.
