Had my session today. Very difficult for me to stay present while I told my T about the shooting on Friday night. I only heard 2 gunshots before I zoned out. Two were shot, the 15 yr old died. He was a student I had worked with at school. I keep hearing the shots in my head and they trigger my flashback to when my mom pulled a gun on my dad. I can't turn down this hypervigulance or get myself calmed down

I am glad that you have a T. I hope your T noticed how difficult it was for you to stay present. I am sorry you are having difficulties with this. Hopefully it will pass quickly and just be put into the category of mental places not to visit mentally often.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I've been re-traumatized many times in my life and can find it difficult to stay in the present. I've been dealing with flashbacks a lot lately, too but have been able to stay grounded.
Hang in there. ![]() --Ceara

One thing that helps me to calm down, but only when I am safely at home alone, is to 'cocoon'. I sit in my recliner, cover my entire body with a blanket so it's very dark, and put on headphones and listen to music.
I have this 'wered' thing about breaking songs down to individual instruments and then listening to just that instrument, but play whatever music you like and listen your way. If you decide to try it, I hope it helps you.
