I have ptsd of a trauma 20 months ago. I have received two emdr therapy treatment ( 30 sessions in total.) I have had to leave my job where the trauma happened. I am leaving on I’ll health grounds , however there are two criteria’s i have to prove to get Ill health.
1st , cant work in my place of work. Which everyone agrees. However part 2 states that I must have a perminant disability ptsd. How on earth can I prove ptsd is a lifelong disability but with treatments it can make the symptoms less intense. My trauma was in my workplace involving one of my best friends who died. I am 57 and must be able to prove my ptsd will remain until I am 66. Any help or stories similar. They make you feel like a fake because they cant see it |

Hello Dawnt: I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral.
![]() I'm sorry I cannot be of help with regard to your concern. I see you list yourself as being in England. So you probably need to hear from members who are in the U.K. (Hopefully you will.) Where I live, "proving" something such as permanent disability is typically something one has to rely on medical & legal professionals for. There's really little or nothing the patient can do, that I know of, other than to cooperate with the various procedures that are required in order for a determination to be reached. I hope you find PC to be of benefit. ![]() |

Under 3 months it'd be acute PTSD. Acute isn't permanent, of course. Chronic PTSD can last a lifetime and it sounds like that's what you're dealing with. Personally, I have delayed onset/chronic PTSD and for me it is very much lifelong. There are treatments to lessen the symptoms (and some people even get 'cured'). Here in the US, as far as I know, there's also arguments over whether it is indeed permanent. I'm not sure how to prove it's permanence other than showing physical copies of the treatment you recieved and getting a current psych eval to establish it is still very much present in your life.

Thank you for your reply. I thought chronic ptsd was for child abuse continuous or torture continuous. I have only now just started looking more into my condition thank you |

Prolonged trauma is Complex-PTSD or C-PTSD.
