I have had a hard weekend. I had a horriable flashback on saturday or friday i cant remember..I cant sleep very well....I have gotten custody of my 17 yo nephew. I feel like I am drained. I dont normally get this way. Im depleted and I need to cry and I cant....I have therapy tomarrow but who knows. My relationship with my T's are being triggered by some posts of this sight and I just cant do this very well. I need support from here and I just cant figure it out.

Be sure to go to therapy.
Flashbacking does drain a person. Be gentle with yourself and don't work on anything, including mentally, for a few days.

I'm sorry you had such a tough weekend.

*Try* to be gentle with yourself.
Flashbacks are draining, because all those fight/flight mechanisms are activated. On top of that I hear worry over a new responsibility.

Whatever you can do right now to care for yourself will help -- just be forgiving of yourself.

A few ideas:
Eat a juicy piece of fruit, and savor how it tastes.
Brew some herbal tea, take time to smell it and slowly sip it.
Take a bath with some candles. Just let the water support you for a while.
Put on some music and Dance around -- let your body move if it wants to.
Step outside and take a few deeeeep breathes of the air.

Find one thing, in this very moment you can notice, and just notice it.

Sending you peaceful thoughts.

Hi Minime, I am sorry that you are having a tough time. Did getting custody of your nephew trigger you? Keep talking and you will figure it out.

Minime,

If I got custody of a small child, I would be rather tense, even though I loved Him and wanted to care for him. Caring for a child is a demanding job. I think it is very kind and loving for you to take him in and love him full-time. I hope things settle out for you soon. Small children need a lot, but they are also wonderful and adorable little humans. I hope to have grandchildren some day. Hang in there!

Thanks for the replies guys. My nephew isnt a little kid he is 17. I have adopted my other sisters kids who are small. I have had them for 8 years. It is stressful to get another child in the house because he is a freshman cedit wise at school but he is supposed to be a senior. He smokes and I am just trying to get my bearings. His mom never made him go to school, he has been moved and moved and stuff so he is a little nervous. I am just trying to nurture him as best as I can. Taking care of his basic needs. He isnt used to having food when he needs it. he has holes in his shoes,. As for my ptsd its ok. Im tired. I had to take my youngest back to the er the second time for her in 5 days for asthma last night. Im tired we got home well after midnight like 1 am or so. I had therapy yesterday and it helped. My therapist called me a genius lol....I have emdr tomarrow. Ptsd is hard to deal with on top of everything else..but I love the kids all three of them..so its ok.

Hi Mini, you are a wonderful aunt! Please don't forget to take care of you too! Is your youngest's asthma triggered by allergies?

((pach)).. Sannah i dont know. She had asthma when she was a baby but no problems for years,,now we are struggling with it. She has a dr appt today to make an asthma plan..so we will hopefully get more control over it.She has always had health issues. She was exposed to meth, and shaken, she was hit..all before 5 months old. She had a severe neurological problem for a while that made her have to use a wheelchair. Thats better now. She is normal actually very smart no wheelchair no seizures no nothing..so asthma I guess is doable. She also has severe refulx not sure if thats connected to asthma..:Ponder:

Minime, yes, reflux can be connected to asthma. Reflux can also be caused from allergies. What is causing her reflux?
