I"ve taken buspar in the past. I was on it for about a year or more. I probably should have gone off it sooner because there really weren't any benifits for me. It didn't help with my anxiety or depression. There was weight gain though.
But thats me! I'm sure it works great for some people.

I am on it, and I'm not getting any physical side effects. It hasn't really helped with my anxiety, but my pdoc upped the dose so we'll see what happens.

Buspar is usually avoided by most of the psychiatrists I know. If you want to decrease anxiety, why not start someone on an SSRI antidepressant with far more proven anti-anxiety efficacy and helps them with depression to boot? Or give them a benzo (Klonopin, Xanax or Valium) to give immediate relief from anxiety. Buspar seems most often given by primary care docs and ER docs that aren't comfortable/knowledgeable enough to give an SSRI or benzo to their patients, in my opinion. Even the manufacturer's reps at a company dinner I went to joke that it really isn't very effective (eek!). However, I have had 1 or 2 patients that have felt it worked in the past for them.
