It's clearly a pseudo-Freudian hotdog deficiency, sometimes called Frankfurter Syndrome.

Girl, you and the bunny just need to take a break.

Truth be told, I'd suspect that your diet is failing you. Keratin, the protein that makes up fingernails, is under control of eicosanoids. They're the hormone-like substances that are formed from polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as prostaglandins.

If you're deficient in PGE1, or excessive in PGE2, then fingernail growth is adversely affected.

You need fish oil, and gammalinoleic acid. I know, fish have faces. Tough, honey. Buck up. Or get some Neuromins, the algae-based vegetarian source DHA oil. I can still hear the algae screaming, as they were blended into a paste. That's what inspired Munch, btw.

GLA is in borage, black currant seed, and evening primrose oils.

By the way, if your nails are in tough shape, so are your arteries. Think heart disease. Think atherosclerosis. Fish oil will reverse that, too.

It takes three months or so for the nail to grow out, so don't be looking for quick changes.

Lar, I've been a vegetarian for decades. Usually my nails are like horse hoofs...so this is really wierd for me. Do you want to change you advice any?

And the people on this board, not knowing our other conversation from the other board, now think you are a TOTAL perv. Hay LAR - why are all my fingernails breaking?

I had a number of things come to mind, and I gave you the most likely (in my estimation). As you don't eat face food, you are at enhanced risk of eicosanoid deficiency or imbalance. It can take some time for the physical symptoms of such to come to the fore. Mood would certainly decline before your fingernails would go.

In any case, here are some more thoughts:
1. yer gettin' old.
2. you have an incomplete amino acid intake (eight essential aminos, some hard to obtain in vegetarian diets).
3. you've been exposed to a cleaning agent or solvent that has defatted your nails, making them brittle. (yes, nails contain fat, and water, too) Coating them nightly with vaseline might help, if that's the cause.
4. you have developed a disease state that has symptoms including decreased nail strength.

Otherwise, don't ask Lar.

Finger nails aside....

I was trying to help you NOT look like a perv, since these nice peeps didn't know about the other chat, dodo head.

And it wasn't sausage, it was hotdogs. TOTALLY different, imo.

You implied that my craving for hotdogs indicated that I wasn't getting enuf horizontal boogie. But you never responded to MY response which is that Lar only picked up on the OBVIOUS because he lives in a tiny glass house!!

Emmy Hay LAR - why are all my fingernails breaking? (not yer Auntie cuz you too dang OLD!)

That wasn't the DH that you mentioned in that other discussion, sweetie.

I didn't imply nothing of the sort. It is the numerous references in your speech that continues to draw the attention.

It's just funny either way. And isn't that what's REALLY important any how? Hay LAR - why are all my fingernails breaking?
