My brother is on Geodon. He can barely keep his eyes open and can barely move or think sometimes. Is that a common side effect. I don't like this drug.

Tired, sleeping alot, stomach distress are the most common side effects that should go away with time. How long has he been taking it? What doseage?

I have read good reports on this drug, but that does not mean everyone can or should take it. Best of luck to your brother !

Unfortunately, new meds can take awhile to build up in ones system to get good results, but worse is the initial side effects. Is he starting to feel less sleepy, less tired now than when he started them? If not, I would talk to the Doc who prescribed it.....especially if he seems to be worse with these symptoms. If he is not scheduled to be seen SOON in follow up to a new medication, I would call them about how he is feeling. Good luck!

I took geodon for depression. I took it in the morning once, but i DEEPLY regretted it. I started taking it at night, and it helped. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stand for long periods of time, and I'm in choir, so I had to get off of it.

If he takes it in the morning, perhaps changing it to night would help. That's how I do my depression meds because they do make me sleepy. My brother was on Geodon for awhile (he is schizophrenic) but he didn't like it. It didn't help him, it seemed to make his paranoia worse along with hallucinations. But then it works differently for different people, so maybe after a bit of time, like our depression meds, give it a few more weeks and if he's still not liking it or the effects aren't slowly going away, maybe you want to change meds. But then it's always a chance for the same thing to happen and you have the 3-4 weeks or more to build up in his system.

Good luck!
Kimberly.

Thanks all. I had to switch him back to Seroquol. It was a much better drug for him. Things are going better now. KTP?? How long did it take for them to diagnose your brother with schizophrenia? My brother had about 3 weeks with delusions, and is now better. Does that mean he is or isn't schizophrenic. No one will give me answers.
