Hi Folks Anyone here ever take Vistaril (AKA: "Atarax")?

Well, my morning went ok but I could feel that anxious, foggy headed, blurry eyed, freakish feeling coming on so I took a 1mg Lorazepam as usual and went on to get lots done today. I mean LOTS!.

This evening, I was'nt so lucky. My eyes are blurry and feel "burned out". Anyone else get this?. I also feel kind of er...not like "myself". Anyway, I have gotten on a regular regimen lately of taking a 1mg Lorazepam in the mornings and a 25mg Vistaril in the evening.

I don't know if it's the Vistaril or not but every morning I wake up hungover and spaced out and I don't mean in a GOOD way!. My whole face was puffy this morning like I had slept on a pile of hay all night and my head/brain felt all soupy. Could this be the Vistaril?. Withdrawal from the Lorazepam in between doses?.

I just thought I'd ask. Man, I am feeling less and lesslike myself every day and I'd like to blame it all on "anxiety" (which I definately have) but this time around, it's been like a pitbull and it's NOT wanting to let go!!.

Oh by the way, supposedly benzos (like Lorazepam) and antihistamines (like Vistaril) can cause "vision problems". Anyone else here have this problems while on these types of meds (or even withdrawal from them)?

Hey GG. I've been taking atarax on/off. Mostly 'on' last month. It really knocked me out (esp. when combined with other meds) and I'd feel so sluggish in the morning - just wanted to go back to bed and 'sleep it off'.

Do you still have a puffy face? Sometimes being allergic to a med can give a person rash, of make person swell up. How long have you been taking atarax?

Hope you feel better soon. ((((((goose)))))))))

Grey Goose~
I took Vistaril for a long time. I too woke up feeling hung over and puffy faced. Mainly took it to help with sleep but mostly for allergies . I had these side effects for about the first month of taking it then they slowly wore off. I too would be interested in knowing how long you have been on it. IF you dont mind saying.I know these things can be a nuisance. Hope they wear off soon for ya. Take care and if they dont get better , maybe you should see the doc? Just a thought. Take care.

Hugz~

Regarding vision problems - I haven't experienced any due to those meds. Have you had your eyes checked?

greygoose, i took vistaril for a very, very short time a LONG time ago. i didn't take it long, so it must've done something to me that i didn't like. i just don't remember. sorry.

i do know that antihistimines can affect the vision. one year, i failed my exam for license. never did before and not since. have often wondered if it was the antihisitimines that i was on. i think you should check with your dr on this one.

I am not feeling good right now, but I will answer slightly and check back with you later.

Question: Which medication are you asking about--Vistaril or Atarax? Those are two different medications. Hydroxyzine Pamoate and Hydroxyzine HCl.

I'm thinking if it's an antihistamine, it tends to dry out your system. I know my vision gets blurry when my eyes are too dry.

In my Tarascon Pharmacopoeia, Atarax and Vistaril are the same thing (hydroxyzine) but one is a hydrochloride salt and the other is a pamoate salt.

I'm an Epileptic within 'reasonalble' control on Keppra, but when I do have the random seizure, or the onslaught of patterns leading up to having a seizure, I have been given an Rx for 1mg Lorazapam which I only take during these times or immediately following actual seizures... The side affects after having a seizure leave me in a drugged stupor, extremely exhausted and a mess as it is, but also leaves me prone to continued seizure activity, so that is the purpose of having available and taking the Lorazapam when these times come up...

However, besides the natural affects I get from just having a seizure, on top of that the Lorazapam leaves me knocked out for up to 24 hours.

When I start to 'come around, I'm then unable to do even minimal tasks, and mostly just want to sleep.

As 24+ hours pass, I am left WIDE awake, weak, extreme blurred vision, and highly irritable and just want to be alone. It kicks me into depression, or makes current depression far more acute.

Wish I could sleep through the effects of seizures and the Lorazapam drug wearing off for the 72 hours it seems that it messes me up. I am so exhausted during these times that all I want to do is sleep, but I go to bed, drop right off to sleep, but wake up wide awake again within 1/2 hour for several days.

I too get all puffy faced, and my hands and feet swell, etc. The only thing I have found that helps with any of this is inundating myself with water during my 'space cat' periods. My vision blurs so bad that I can't even be on my PC, so I feel completely cut off from the world when I have to take one of the Lorazapam tablets.

1mg of Lorazapam should not last for 72 hours or give you any of those extreme side effects. Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong drug or something. Someone should come along soon that can help us...me.

Not me. Haven't a clue about this... have you pulled the drug's website? I have long lasting reactions to meds as I'm hypersensitive. My "seizures" are quite mild and after last year's terrible span of new drug reactions, I'm taking this year off from trying to find anything to help there. TC

I take it for anxiety a couple of times a day at that dose. It's generic Ativan....I don't have my bottle handy but I'm pretty sure that's what I take...let me go look...yep it is.
