hey,

from what dr told me, vistaril is an antihistimine that works well for anxiety. i didn't really believe him. well, i was wrong. it worked great for the generalized anxiety, but made me tired. it didn't help panic attacks at all.

so if you have generalized anxiety, you have a good chance of it working for ya. dr said the tiredness i would adjust to. i did, but still always felt it.

it wasn't long after that, that i was sent to p'doc and he started giving me benzos.

that was years and years ago and i don't take any of that, but i remember the vistaril working well on the all day "can't sit still, mind racing" anxiety.

gl! let us know, ok?\

I've had a really good experience using Vistaril. I was originally on Xanax for anxiety, but it knocked me out -- even at times when it didn't produce immediate fatigue, I would still have this sort of fog (like alcohol gives you). Vistaril is completely different for me, in that I feel calm, yet aware/conscious of my surroundings. When I get the kind of anxiety where I don't want to leave the house, Vistaril is amazing, it honestly feels like I'm floating, utterly serene. Of course, all benzo's have fatigue as a side effect, and my dr told me that even though Vistaril is an anti-histamine, it is also classified as a benzo (since it alters the effect of GABA in the GABA-Benzodiazepine System). Vistaril makes me tired the next day, but the amount of fatigue diminishes after the first or second week. Also, using it fairly consistently will help w/ the fatigue aspect (and by consistent, I mean don't do what I did, waiting over a month to take it again Meds changed AGAIN.... Vistaril?). Good luck!

This medicine doesn't seem to be helping me much. I was hoping for a better result. My docs are trying to avoid anything stronger, and that's understandable. I've never been on any medicine for my problems until just recently. So we are trying to take it slow. I'm just the type that gets VERY impatient if I don't get immediate relief! LOL Something I am gonna have to get over! Thanks KD and Jesseryn.

How long have you been taking it? Did your doc tell you how long you should be taking it before you notice results?

I've been taking it now for 7 days. He said I should notice some improvement by the 4th day at least. I am noticing nothing. Everything is still the same.

Quick question: do you think that maybe you are concentrating too hard on getting some type of quick relief that that in itself is making you more anxious???
Hope you are feeling relief soon!

sj, I may be doing a little of that. Focusing too much on quick relief. But I just feel so bad that I almost can't help it! LOL I am feeling better today though. And I am taking the Abilify and Klonopin. It makes me feel normal again. Thank goodness.
