PERSONALLY, GEODON DID NOT HELP ME MUCH. IT MADE ME MORE MANIC AND I HAD TO BE CAREFUL WITH MY EKG HEART READINGS. WHAT HELPED ME A LOT WAS ABILIFY. BUT GIVE GEODON A CHANCE - IT MIGHT WORK FOR YOU. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for the insight, qwiz642. It's much appreciated. I've just noticed that Geodon seems to REALLY knock me out. I just want to sleep alot, and it makes me feel like I HAVE to be moving something on my body at all times. I don't think that's normal. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it soon.

I've been on it for quite awhile, and have noticed the higher the dosage, the more tremors that I have. I also have alot of restlessness and must keep moving.

The side effects are outweighing the benefits. I have since dropped dosage from 120mg down to 40mg. and have noticed a major lessening of the side effects.

Good luck.

I had horrible side effects (akathisia, tremor, tardive dyskinesia GEODON HELP PLEASE??!?! ) on Geodon. I was prescribed it for an alternate treatment for PTSD. The involuntary movement symptoms slowly appeared within 5 months and just overwhelmed me. I was switched to Seroquel and the akathisia and tremor remained. These symptoms can become permanent in patients. The most irritating part of the experience was hearing doctors tell me I have no choice but remain on these type of drugs. For me, antipsychotics were more a harm than benefit. But as my counselor says "to each his own."

Thanks to everyone that responded. I have contacted my doctor since I last posted here. I told him about how I couldn't stop moving and he prescribed Cogentin to take along with the Geodon. I see no change whatsoever. I am still having an extremely hard time with the Geodon. I think it's making me worse instead of better. It's just SO hard to sit still, and even harder to concentrate on anything. I really just don't think this drug is for me. Again, thanks to all that replied!

My pdoc put me on it for depression (apparantly it does help people with depression), and my mood lifted, but unfortunately the physical side effects overtook the benefits of the drug.

I've been on it since 2007, and I've had no problems. It really helped me. Geodon can cause you to gain weight, but it's less likely then other psych meds. Sometimes, it makes me hungry, but it's controllable hunger and can be resolved by eating a snack. I've been able to lose weight and keep it off.

I've been doing better on Abilify than I did on Geodon. Having said that, I tolerated it better than some of the other "atypicals" I'd tried before. The heart issue is kinda scary, though.

Geodon was very disappointing for me. It caused me to feel tired, but unable to sleep, along with other odd symptoms. I tried it for 3 months, then gave up on the stuff.

I like Geodon. You must eat 300-500 calories with it for it to metabolize and work. I have no side effects other than sound sleep and control of bipolar 1 symptoms.

I had the same side affects. That feeling of not being able to sit still, and even when you move it doesn't do the trick, is AwFUL. I'm surprised your doctor didn't take take you right off it. I would ask him too.
