I was given a prescription for Antivert from the ER yesterday to help with dizziness from the concussion. I took it to the pharmacy & when they ran it on their computer, a warning came up regarding an allergy or interaction. They asked me about my allergies to meds & I took out my 1/2 page list of meds & the reactions which are usually the unusual reactions. She had the pharmacist look it over & he said it didn't look like there would be a problem.

Then he asked me if I was allergic to water......had to laugh at that one & told him it depended on what was in the water. It is kinda scarry to realize that you don't know how your body will react to anything that is put into it.

I am sure many of you have similar problems.....making treatment very difficult for the Dr's involved.

I think we all sorta worry about taking a new medication and how it may react with other meds. I have taken Antivert off and on for years with no problem. ( Sorry you did have a concussion , I mentioned that in your original post about going to ER to get checked out ! )

Is there a chance that the pharmacist was being "silly" about the water issue, since you have a long list of allergies? I know my Mom has a 3x5 card full on both sides of her allergies (meds and foods - listing foods is always a very good idea as many times certain meds should not be taken with certain food allergies), and the pharmacist always makes a joke when Mom walks into pharmacy to get a new med....like " ut oh, gotta get out all the books I have to make sure we can fill this one for ya"..............Just a thought there. I hope you are feeling better, and that the Antivert helped !

I resemble those remarks! And I AM allergic to the water! Tap water that is, the flouride and the chlorine.. especially when they do the quarterly dump of purification (bleach?) into the system. I even have a filter on my shower head!

Be thankful you have a pharmacist that cares. My pharmacist is a real "friend" in that sense, to me. Drug allergies Allergies are anything but fun, but the lighthearted remarks are appreciated, to me.

I knew he was being light hearted in his comment.....I got a real good laugh from it.....along with a comment from my GP that he was going to make me wear a yellow gown the next time he put me into the hospital......

Warning, warning......lol

At least we can look at it as being funny until we are in the middle of a reaction.

Me too.....rolf.....think we make a great team for the Dr's to experiment on to see what kind of allergies meds can create in people.

I think we can find some matching yellow shirts to wear for sure. An A for "allergies" on our forheads could be mistaken for the other meaning of "A".......lol....think the yellow shirts would definitely be a safer solution.
