Maybe it's just me, but I just started on Lexapro an SSRI. Ever since then I need sugar. I have such a sweet tooth. Need it so bad. I had the same need for sugar while on Zoloft and Prozac. Is it just me or does anyone else have this need for sugar while taking SSRI's as well? Need to go and hunt me down some fudge, this hershey bar didn't do the sugar fix.

How strange Monty. I was on an SSRI for 4 years and when I started all I wanted was sugar. I remeber it cos I dont have a sweet tooth at all. It did go away.

On another note, coming off them gave me electric shocks in my hands and head. I dont take anything now.

Hmmmmm, I was reading that people suffering from atypical depression crave carbs more. I was a total carbaholic. Then I started taking 600 mcg of chromium because it curbs the cravings and helps you metabolize carbs and sugar better. My psychiatrist even said it helps antidepressants work better.

Wellbutrin has really curbed my depressive tendency to overeat, too, so I'm feeling better just because of that. I always felt so disappointed in myself for the nonstop snacking (and the subsequent weight gain).

Maybe you could give chromium a try. It's cheap. I paid $4.64 for 100 of the 200 mcg tablets at Wal-Mart.

I posted in this forum several months ago about Lexapro and weight gain. Cam answered by responding that SSRI's do cause carbohydrate cravings in some people.
