My mind wanders off when I try to do things I want and need to do, like reading. I can't concentrate and it's very frustrating. Little things distract me. Sometimes nothing at all.
I wonder if there is a medication that I can get that can help me with my concentration? And if I can't get it, should I settle for Prozac or whatever generic pill my doctor throws at me? If I end up on Prozac (which is likely, since many doctors like to prescribe it to almost anyone who shows up to their office with psychological problems), and if it doesn't help with my concentration, should I ask for an ADD evaluation? It''s not like I want to end up on Ritalin because I want to get high (if that's what I wanted, aren't antidepressants more likely to accomplish that goal?)... I just want to concentrate so I can get done what I want and need to get done. |

It sounds like a good idea for you to be evaluated for ADD/ADHD. Your psychiatrist should be able to help you with it. Are you seeing a psychiatrist or an family med or internist?
There are all kinds of meds, meditation, therapy and such that can help with ADD/ADHD. I take dexidrine, and I am in a therapy group and individual therapy. Oh, I also have a psychiatrist to manage my meds. It takes a lot of work to deal with ADD/ADHD. I am managing it well right now and I wish you the best.

I am on an anti-dep and mood stabiliser for Bipolar.
My pdoc now thinks there may also be some ADD or similar issue, and is trying me on Concerta for a month-same as Ritalin. I'll let you know how it goes |
