I've tried Zopiclone, Zolpidem and Temazepam, and am on Effexor 225mg and still I can't sleep! My doctor is running out of patience with me, I'm sure she thinks I'm making things up,but I havdn had a good night's sleeo in weeks. I've tried days where I havent taken any meds (except Effxor) and nothing. I'm improving my sleep hygiene, but nothing seems to help with a good nights sleep. Im getting abour 4-5 hours a night but its broken sleep and I feel awful in the mornings.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice?

I really like Zopiclone. Sorry it doesn't work for you.
What about trying Klonopin?
Are you ensuring your sleep environment is good? Comfy mattress, dark room, quiet...
Thanks for this!

I can't sleep well at night, but can sleep during the day just fine. I have been on a number of different sleep med concoctions and nothing works for long. I take up to 10 mgs of melatonin now and that helps me get to sleep usually. I hope you find something that works for you. Sleep is so important.

I'm not sure if you should do this, but I take Benedryl along with the Zolpidem to help me sleep at night. Sometimes I have to add Klonopin in the mix to get me to sleep when I am really stressed out and anxious. You should talk to your doctor about this before you try it. What works for me might not be very good for you, especially since the pharmacist does not believe that I should be mixing these, but my pdoc does not have a problem with it.
Thanks for this!

I'm really happy with Sinequan (Doxepin).. I take 100mg at night, and it knocks me out. The first night I took it I woke up in a fog, but it cleared after a few doses. It's a 1st generation anti-deppressant, however I think its better than most OTC

Thanks everyone for your tips. I will try them all!

Just a question re the Benadryl- is that the over-the-counter stuff for hayfever? I'm in the UK so just want to check it's the same thing!

Hi Chronic. The other name for Benadryl is Diphenhydramine HCL. It's an antihistamine. I hope it helps.

I take 100 mg of Seroquel XR about three hours before bedtime and I sleep all the way through for the first time in YEARS. It took awhile for it to build up in my system but now it works like a charm.

I've had good results with Melatonin too, which is available without a prescription. You take it about half an hour before you want to sleep.

Insomnia is a major depression symptom though. I wonder if your meds are working? Is you doc a psychiatrist? My psychiatrist takes lack of sleep seriously and stays on it until it is fixed. If you are seeing a GP, maybe a meds evaluation by a specialist could help. Hang in there!

I've been struggling with insomnia, and since the antidepressant I'm on is more activating than making me drowsy, I've been using melatonin to help sleep too. I'm finding it really helpful. You don't need much - one 3mg pill will do it for me, though it can be found in up to 10mg tablets.

I would go to my GP doctor and get a full workup, make sure there wasn't anything else wrong that could be impinging on your sleep. Obviously your body has a problem and whether you should throw meds at your head or not, I don't know. The problem isn't not sleeping, there's something before the not sleeping that is the cause, see if you can get to the cause?
