My p-doc just put me on klonopin. Currently I have been using xanax on an "as-needed" basis. The klonopin I will be taking twice each day. Would love to hear from folks who take it or know something about it.

Thanks!

I've never taken it myself, but I have a friend who was on it for a while. The only two things I know about it are: 1. She seemed to think that it helped her, and 2. She went off it when she got pregnant - had a rough couple of days but adjusted just fine.

Klonopin is very good at preventing panic attacks, however if one is in a long-term stressful situation..and said situation escalates...that's where the Xanax would be nice to have around. klonopin

In summation, Kismet, it is my opinion that BOTH Klonopin & xanax should be prescribed. Covers all bases. klonopin

My pdoc says Xanax is faster-acting, but Klonopin is more potent and longer-lasting. I'm currently on Klonopin and find that it helps. I take 1 mg twice a day. I liked the Xanax when I was having several panic attacks a day, because it worked in like 10 minutes, but it made me sleepy, and it did eventually wear off.

I have been on Klonopin for almost two years now, for my panic attacks. I take 1mg twice a day, and have found I REALLY have to be triggered to have a panic attack. I have back-up Xanax (1mg also) but haven't needed it for 4 months, since my dog went missing and I passed out from hyperventilation brought on by my panic attack.

Klonopin makes me feel a bit more secure about 'my world' and I cope much better than I did when I was on Xanax alone.

klonopin was too difficult for me to manage . . . too sedating . . . too confusing . . . difficult to know if safe to drive vehicle.

using the short-acting drugs like xanax, valium, or ativan works better FOR ME. that way i knew when it wasn't safe to drive a vehicle . . . or why i was so sleepy and couldn't function.

I did really good on klonopin. I took it at bedtime because it made me sleep. The only reason I was taken off it was because when I went into the hospital the doctors there didn't like the fact that it was an addictive drug and causes dependency.

Klonopin gave me my life back. I have taken it for almost 16 years, the same dose, never an extra pill, and no panic attacks. Yes, it may be addictive, but for me, I dont care. I personally do not think I am addicted to it, since I do not crave it, have to put my pills in one of those little weekly pill holders to know if I have even taken it, and never had to increase the doseage. It took me about 4 weeks to get over the drowsieness it can cause at first, but I have had absolutely no problems on it since. I had been on a LARGE dose of Xanax, and WAS addicted - I sat with the pill in my hand watching the clock til I could swallow it, and it didnt work anyway. I THOUGHT it was helping me, and it did for about an hour to some degree, but when I got on the Klonopin, I KNEW it was working !

Everyone reacts to meds differently. Some Docs will say if you have an addictive personality, it might not be the med for you, and some Docs are just not knowledgeable about how to prescribe it and monitor a patient taking it. Having worked with clients with panic now for over 12 years, I have never seen anyone have serious issues with Klonopin, and have seen more success with it than not.

I took Klonopin for a short time, and it was horrible for me. My Pdoc wanted me off the meds ASAP because I was acting weird on them, even on the smallest dose, however everyone is different with medications.. since my experience was really bad on it I wont take it again. I was on Ativan for awhile, and that helped some for anxiety.

Good luck.

<font color="purple">I was put on klonopin and didn't have a good go of it. I slept all the time, I felt like I was always in a daze and weak. I could not function on it at all. I do know of some people though that had success taking it. Everyone is different. I hope it works well for you. </font>
